On Intrepid's family trip to Costa Rica, you and your children will visit Marino Ballena National Park, the first marine reserve in Central America. “Ballena” means whale in Spanish, and this area is not only a hotspot for humpback whales, but also features a unique sandbar shaped like a whale's tail that emerges at low tide. This water is home to 17 types of coral, which are currently threatened due to severe bleaching caused by rising water temperatures. During your trip, you'll join a local conservation group in a coral restoration project, helping to cut live coral from nurseries and replanting them back into the ocean.
