4 Must-Visit Eateries When You’re in Venice
Venice truly took my breath away from the moment I first set foot in the city. It has a unique atmosphere that feels entirely different and captivating, almost like stepping into a dream. What surprised me even more was the sheer number of tourists. Venice is such a famous destination that even during the off-peak season, it’s bustling with people. Thankfully, thanks to a friendly Airbnb host, I discovered some fantastic dining spots that won’t break the bank.
L’ Bacaro de’ Bischeri
When I stumbled upon schiacciata in Florence before heading to Venice, it felt like a trip back in time. Schiacciata is a type of Italian flatbread, thinner and crispier than focaccia, and in my opinion, even tastier. At L’ Bacaro de’ Bischeri, they serve this bread filled with delicious options like prosciutto, mortadella, or roasted chicken. With prices around 10-12 euros, it’s a great deal for a quick lunch. This place is located near the Rialto Market; it might be a bit hard to find, but it's definitely worth the effort.

Cantina Do Mori
I was introduced to cicchetti during my visit to Venice—these small bites are similar to Spain’s pintxos. Cantina Do Mori stood out among the bacaros we tried. It’s the oldest wine bar in Venice, having opened its doors in 1462. There’s no menu here; you simply choose from the cicchetti displayed at the counter and enjoy them with a glass of wine. Rumor has it that this place has been featured in the famous detective novels by Donna Leon, making it quite popular even in Germany.
Bar All’Arco
No trip to San Polo is complete without a stop at Bar All’Arco. This spot gained fame thanks to the show Somebody Feed Phil. They offer a wide variety of delicious cicchetti, but I particularly loved the bacalao dish. Each item is around 3 euros, which is quite reasonable. Plus, Bar All’Arco and Cantina Do Mori are conveniently located close to each other, making it easy to explore both.
Antico Forno
Just as my host promised, Antico Forno is a pizza place you can’t miss. They offer two types of pizza: pre-made thick crust and thin crust made to order. Even though I’m not a fan of thick crust pizza, this place changed my mind. The crust, while thick, is surprisingly light, crispy on the outside and soft on the inside after baking. The Giardino di Sara pizza, topped with roasted vegetables, is also incredibly delicious—both styles are worth trying.
All these eateries are located in San Polo, a quieter area away from the tourist crowds. They are truly ideal spots for anyone who loves to indulge in local cuisine.
