Just over an hour and a half drive from Miami, this is a favorite stop for my friends and me when we tour the Florida Keys. If you're traveling from Miami to Key West, make sure to pause here to sample some of the freshest seafood around.

Islamorada is renowned as the sportfishing capital of the world, so it’s no surprise that you can find enticing, freshly caught seafood here. Even if you’re not a seafood lover, the restaurants offer plenty of options to satisfy every palate. Here’s a list of my absolute favorite eateries when visiting Islamorada.

1. Lorelei Restaurant & Cabana Bar

If you're looking for a spot to enjoy a meal while catching a stunning sunset, I highly recommend Lorelei Restaurant & Cabana Bar. Don’t expect a fancy atmosphere; the seating is simple plastic, but the food and drinks are fantastic. Plus, they often have live music in the evenings, adding to the fun vibe.

This place is so popular that if you plan to visit during sunset, arrive at least an hour early to snag a table. They don’t take reservations, so it’s always bustling. Each meal period features its own menu, along with daily specials.

2. Wahoo’s Seafood Bar and Grill

Wahoo’s is famous for serving some of the best seafood in the Florida Keys. Located right on Whale Harbor Marina, the views are spectacular. If the weather is pleasant, I love sitting outside on one of the two ocean-view decks. Their Lobster Scampi is a must-try!

Don’t miss out on happy hour from 4 PM to 7 PM for discounted drinks and bites. With award-winning chefs, Wahoo’s will not disappoint.

3. Hungry Tarpon – Robbie’s

Stop by Robbie’s Marina not only to feed the tarpon fish but also to enjoy the delicious offerings at Hungry Tarpon. Open every day, this spot serves a variety of meals from morning till night. I’m particularly fond of their seared tuna in bao buns and the Triple Tail sandwich.

If you’ve caught your own fish, they offer a service to prepare it in four different styles for you to choose from.

4. Islamorada Fish Company

Founded in 1948, Islamorada Fish Company is a must-visit for anyone wanting to savor fresh seafood. They’re known for their Islamorada fish sandwich and seasonal blue crab. If you’re in the mood to sample a variety of dishes or need an appetizer to share, definitely try the Island Sampler.

5. Lazy Days

Lazy Days is right on the beach, and I absolutely love dining with my toes in the sand. This restaurant not only serves fresh seafood but also many traditional dishes from the Keys. If you catch any fish during your trip, bring it here, and they’ll cook it to your liking.

6. Square Grouper

Located in the marina area of Islamorada, Square Grouper is a restaurant you need to check out. They don’t take reservations, so arrive early to secure your table. There’s also The Sunset Lounge – a perfect spot to enjoy cocktails while watching the sunset before dinner. The menu here is both creative and unique.

7. Pierre’s

With its French culinary style, Pierre’s offers a luxurious dining experience right by the beach. The restaurant is designed in a West African colonial style and features two dining areas with breathtaking views of Florida Bay.

The dress code here is 'elegantly casual', so no need for a tie. You can make reservations to ensure your spot.
