Shabu Days at Hillion Mall
It may sound unusual, but it's true! Shabu Days has just opened at Hillion Mall, serving delectable Japanese hotpot with fresh meats and organic vegetables. Located on the second floor right in the heart of the kopitiam area, it's easy to find.
The design of Shabu Days mimics the counter-style seating typical in Japan, which allows for a more intimate dining experience. Here, staff can serve you directly without having to walk around too much, making it a great spot for those who appreciate authenticity in their meals.
Dishes I've Tried
I ordered the Mega Pork Collar Shabu set for 22.90 SGD and opted for the Bonito Kombu broth, adding an extra SGD for udon noodles. For drinks, I chose the Kimura Cider in grape flavor for 6.80 SGD. This set also includes a Yasai Garden Bowl and a 3-Treasure Bowl.
The service was quite prompt. I noticed they had already prepared the vegetable portions for the Yasai Garden Bowl, which included shimeji and enoki mushrooms, pumpkin, slices of radish, carrot peel, and lettuce. The Bonito Kombu broth arrived quickly, with some seaweed resting at the bottom of the pot. The broth had a gentle sweetness and savory flavor, making it very enjoyable.
The pork collar was plentiful and definitely not small! A tip: they slice the meat right in the center, so if you want to watch the process, choose a seat on the right. I found the meat delicious, rich, and tender.

My Friend's Wagyu Set
My friend ordered the Shabu set with A5 Wagyu Chuck Roll for 39.90 SGD, choosing the Sukiyaki broth with pasteurized egg. Ramen was a sophisticated choice for carbs, and she also opted for Kimura Cider in Muscat flavor for 6.80 SGD.
The Sukiyaki broth was richly sweet, a bit overwhelming for some, but my friend loved it. The Wagyu was thick, so we took a while to finish it. The meat was tender with beautiful marbling and a delightful richness.
Even though there was a good amount of meat, I regretted not choosing ramen like my friend did. I found the udon portion a bit small and not as filling as I had hoped.
Ending the Meal with DIY Egg Risotto
To wrap up our meal, we ordered the DIY Egg Risotto for 3.50 SGD, which required using the leftover broth. They provided us with a step-by-step guide, but not everyone understood it clearly. Seeing us puzzled, a staff member came over to help!
He poured rice into the broth, added seasonings and scallions, stirred it well, and brought it to a boil. Then, he cracked an egg into it and stirred again. The result was an incredibly tasty dish that was creamy and perfect for finishing off our meal.
A Delightful Culinary Experience
In summary, I found the experience here very pleasant, thanks to the friendly staff and the well-balanced dishes made with quality ingredients. Having a Japanese hotpot in the middle of a kopitiam area is truly a unique experience. Be sure to stop by and enjoy it for yourself!
