If you find yourself in Malaysia, you absolutely must try a Ramly burger, especially in the evening. Sitting on a plastic chair by the roadside after a long day, enjoying a freshly made burger topped with beef, egg, and two kinds of sauces is an experience like no other. While Dhon Burger in Petaling Jaya doesn’t serve the famous Ramly bun, they certainly have their own unique delights.

A Prime Location in the City

Located right next to the road leading to S.K. Taman Medan, Dhon Burger is surrounded by other food stalls, creating a mini pasar malam vibe. To the right of the stall, you'll find chilled beverages, and a little further away, there are delights like takoyaki and keropok lekor. Unlike many roadside burger joints, this stall has a roof for patrons to sit under, though there are no tables. Most people tend to take their food away or eat in their cars, but there are a few chairs for those who want to linger and enjoy.

A Menu Worth Waiting For

I tried the Bigmok Daging (RM5) – one of the main reasons locals in PJ are crazy about this place. This burger is also nicknamed “burger banjir” on social media, and it’s easy to see why. Not only is the homemade beef patty soaked in a sweet black pepper sauce, but it’s also generously topped with mayonnaise, chili sauce, and cheese sauce. As soon as I unwrapped it, the sauces began to ooze out.

A Unique Flavor Experience

Many might think the sauces would overpower the burger, but I was pleasantly surprised to find the opposite. The sauces blended beautifully, with the mayonnaise and black pepper sauce creating a dominant flavor. Yet, the beef patty still stood out with a clear taste, unlike the industrial burgers. I noticed everyone around me slowed down their chewing, eyes widening in delight and nodding in agreement after their first bite.

In addition to burgers, I also tried the Shawarma Ayam Goreng (RM5.50). The standout ingredient here is definitely the meat. The fried chicken is unlike your typical pieces; it resembles popcorn chicken but with more meat. The chicken is tender, the coating is crispy, and it comes with a sweet and spicy sauce. It’s just the right portion for every bite.

This shawarma might not be the strongest item on the menu, but it certainly doesn’t lack flavor. If you usually order fried chicken at fast-food places, you’ll likely enjoy this dish. As for the Mac n Cheese (RM9), I must say it’s the best cheese dish I’ve ever tasted. It’s piping hot and generously cheesy.

The entire bowl was overflowing with cheese, accompanied by slices of pepperoni and chicken sausage. If I had to describe this dish in one word, I would say “bold” in a positive way. For this price point, you can’t expect gourmet cheese, but what they offer is quite reasonable. They’ve skillfully blended real cheese and cheese sauce in the perfect ratio.

Things to Note

The dishes here are definitely worth trying, and enjoying a meal with friends at this spot will surely be fun. While I wasn’t overly impressed with the pepperoni and sausage pieces, it’s clear many people would enjoy them. However, the sausage here is more on the basic side, somewhat bland compared to expectations.

I was thoroughly satisfied with what I tried at Dhon Burger, and everyone else agreed. With affordable prices, this is a must-visit spot if you’re looking for a quick yet delicious meal. As long as you don’t mind the health aspect, the food here will definitely satisfy your cravings. I will surely return, especially to enjoy that Mac n Cheese again.
