World of Hyatt will adjust its reward point values starting May 20, 2026, with concerning increases. Discover how these changes will impact travelers.

Overview of World of Hyatt Exchange Rate Changes

World of Hyatt has recently announced plans to adjust its reward point exchange rates, effective May 20, 2026. This will be the first update to the program's pricing structure in nearly five years. The changes have raised concerns among travel enthusiasts about the significant increase in the costs of redeeming points, with some prices expected to rise by as much as 67%.

New Exchange Levels

As part of the restructuring, Hyatt will maintain the number of exchange categories but will shift from three levels (low, medium, high) to five levels (lowest, low, medium, high, highest). This means hotels will have new pricing tiers to better manage higher demand during travel seasons.

Comparison of New Exchange Rates

Here’s a breakdown comparing the standard room exchange costs between the old and new pricing:

  • Category 1 Hotels: Increased from 3,500-6,500 points to 3,000-9,000 points (a decrease of 14% to an increase of 38%)
  • Category 2 Hotels: Increased from 6,500-9,500 points to 6,000-15,000 points (a decrease of 8% to an increase of 58%)
  • Category 3 Hotels: Increased from 9,000-15,000 points to 8,000-20,000 points (a decrease of 11% to an increase of 33%)
  • Category 4 Hotels: Minimum remains at 12,000 points, but can go up to 25,000 points (an increase of up to 39%)
  • Category 5 Hotels: Decreased from 17,000-23,000 points to 15,000-35,000 points (an increase of up to 52%)
  • Category 6 Hotels: Increased from 21,000-29,000 points to 20,000-40,000 points (an increase of up to 38%)
  • Category 7 Hotels: Increased from 25,000-35,000 points to 25,000-55,000 points (an increase of up to 57%)
  • Category 8 Hotels: Increased from 35,000-45,000 points to 35,000-75,000 points (an increase of up to 67%)

Useful Information for Vietnamese Travelers

For Vietnamese travelers, participating in the World of Hyatt program requires a membership account. If you enjoy staying at upscale hotels, accumulating points can help save on future trips. Currently, you can easily fly from Ho Chi Minh City (SGN) or Hanoi (HAN) to major cities where Hyatt operates, such as Bangkok, Kyoto, or Tokyo, with ticket prices ranging from 3 to 5 million VND, depending on the time of booking.

When flying to these destinations, be mindful of visa requirements. For instance, if you plan to visit Japan, you may need to prepare a visa in advance, which can cost around 1 million VND.

About the New Pricing Strategy

Hyatt has stated that this change aims to help hotels manage higher demand during peak travel seasons. This means that while some hotels will raise their prices, there will still be many opportunities to find more reasonable rates in the future, depending on the season and room availability.

Additional Changes

In addition to adjusting prices, Hyatt is committed to continuing the publication of its reward charts to maintain user trust. These changes are expected to significantly impact how customers use their reward points moving forward, especially for frequent travelers within the Hyatt system.

Finally, if you are a fan of luxury travel, be prepared for these upcoming changes and plan your reward resources wisely to mitigate the impact of the impending price increases.
