My night flight from Los Angeles to Chicago with United Airlines was an exciting experience, highlighted by a beautiful musical moment upon landing.
An Exciting Journey with United Airlines
The overnight flight on United Airlines from Los Angeles to Chicago was surprisingly comfortable, even though I couldn't catch much sleep. However, after landing, an unexpected moment left me feeling euphoric.
Easy Ticket Booking
Despite it being the busy Christmas season, I managed to book my ticket a few weeks in advance for just $124.49 each. This was a much better deal compared to using 15,000 points from United or Air Canada! Tickets closer to the departure date typically soar to nearly $450 one-way, so booking early is always a wise choice.
The Fascinating A321neo
I really enjoy flying on United's A321neo aircraft thanks to its reliable high-speed Wi-Fi and backseat screens. Whenever possible, I try to book my flights on the A321neo instead of the 737-900 or 757-300.
Flight Details
The plane departed at 11:55 PM from LAX and landed in Chicago at 6:09 AM. The flight lasted 4 hours and 14 minutes, and I was seated in 32C. The flight was quite full, especially on Christmas Eve.
Seating and Amenities
Economy class seating is configured 3-3 from rows 7 to 42, totaling 180 seats. Economy Plus offers extra legroom for a more comfortable experience. Each seat is equipped with a USB-C port and power outlet, making it easy to charge devices.

New Blankets and Beverages
The flight featured United's new blankets, which are light blue and significantly thicker than the previous thin ones. However, United does not provide pillows for domestic overnight flights. The high-speed Wi-Fi is available for $8 for MileagePlus members.
Food and Drinks
There isn't a full meal service during overnight flights, just snack boxes and complimentary drinks. I ordered a bag of Bakeology cookies, but before I could enjoy them, my kids devoured them all.
A Zen Moment
The most memorable part of this flight was as we were preparing to land. Although I hadn't slept much, I dozed off for a bit after the safety checks were completed. As the plane touched down, a song began playing through the sound system: Rufus Wainwright's "Hallelujah." I had never heard this song before and was pleasantly surprised.
Reality After the Flight
My kids were sound asleep, with one little girl snuggled up on my bag. The next day, we would continue our journey to Copenhagen. Although I may be too old for overnight flights, this timing was truly effective, even if it meant sacrificing some sleep.
Conclusion
