Introducing the Capital One Point Transfer Program
In September 2025, Capital One's rewards program welcomed Japan Airlines Mileage Bank as its newest transfer partner. This marks the third time the program has rolled out a point transfer promotion since its inception, and it seems like a great opportunity. However, the standard transfer ratio still falls short of a 1:1 exchange.
30% Transfer Bonus
From April 1 to April 30, 2026, Capital One's program in the U.S. is offering a 30% bonus for points transferred to Japan Airlines Mileage Bank. Points from Capital One convert to Japan Airlines points at a ratio of 4:3, meaning you’ll receive 750 Japan Airlines points for every 1,000 Capital One points transferred. With the 30% bonus, the temporary conversion ratio will be 1,000:975, coming close to that coveted 1:1 mark.
Many popular Capital One cards currently offer double points for every dollar spent, so with this promotion, you could potentially earn nearly 2 Japan Airlines points for every dollar you spend.
What Sets Japan Airlines Mileage Bank Apart
Among the four major rewards programs available for transfers, Capital One’s collaboration with Japan Airlines Mileage Bank is unique and exciting. However, it's worth noting that Bilt Rewards also partners with Japan Airlines and offers a straightforward 1:1 transfer ratio from the get-go, so I often prefer Bilt Rewards for my transfers.
Is the Transfer Worth It?
Is transferring points from Capital One to Japan Airlines worthwhile? Japan Airlines Mileage Bank is a rather specialized frequent flyer program that doesn’t get much attention in the U.S. When it comes to redeeming points for travel with Japan Airlines, this program can be quite valuable: Japan Airlines offers the same number of standard awards to its members as it does to members of partner programs.

Đặt vé ngay với giá ưu đãi từ các hãng hàng không
This means that you can access some awards that might be priced a bit higher but are more readily available. While the redemption rates through Japan Airlines Mileage Bank might be slightly lower than those of partner programs, with the effort it takes to earn points, that doesn’t necessarily deter you from wanting to transfer through this program.
Benefits of Japan Airlines Mileage Bank
One significant advantage of Japan Airlines Mileage Bank is that you can access award space 360 days in advance, as soon as flight schedules are released. This is ideal for snagging first-class and business-class awards, especially since airlines typically open up award seats when flight schedules are published.
Japan Airlines Mileage Bank also boasts attractive redemption rates for other airlines, including partners within the oneworld alliance and several non-oneworld partners like Air France and Emirates. For example, below is a chart detailing business class award rates based on distance.

There’s also a oneworld award chart if you’re flying on two or more oneworld airlines, which allows for multiple stopovers.
Points Redemption Limitations
It’s important to note that Japan Airlines Mileage Bank has restrictions on whom you can transfer points to. You can only transfer points to family members with whom you have a marital or blood relationship. Therefore, if you're considering joining the Mileage Bank, it’s essential to familiarize yourself with these rules before making any transfers, as it’s not as straightforward as some other programs.
Conclusion
In summary, Capital One is offering a 30% bonus for transferring points to Japan Airlines Mileage Bank. While the standard conversion rate is 4:3, with this 30% promotion, you’ll achieve a ratio very close to 1:1. I'm excited that Japan Airlines has become a transfer partner of Capital One, and to be honest, I only consider transferring points when there’s an attractive offer. I don’t think this 30% bonus is compelling enough for a risky transfer, but for a specific goal, it could be worthwhile.
