In March, United Airlines announced plans for brand new aircraft set to join its fleet in April 2026. With ultra-luxurious seating designs, it’s clear that the airline is targeting high-paying passengers, while economy class is being pushed to the back burner. The new Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner will feature just 123 economy seats compared to 64 Polaris (business class) and 35 Premium Plus seats. Back in the 1970s and 1980s, economy seating typically offered a spacious pitch of 34 to 36 inches, but today, that number has plummeted to just around 28 inches on some airlines.

United has unveiled new services for its Polaris Studio passengers, including lie-flat seats, private windows, and elegant dining options. Those willing to spend more can enjoy a much more spacious and comfortable environment compared to economy class.
