A Journey of Self-Discovery: The Adventure of Allison Lang

Allison Lang is not just a bronze medal-winning Paralympic athlete; she is also a model, an inspiring speaker, and above all, a passionate advocate for disability rights. She has chosen the path of travel to reshape her identity and help others discover the strength in their own stories.

On Allison's Instagram, her images radiate energy. From competitive sports moments with Team Canada to breathtaking travel snaps, she showcases her vibrant life. Despite using a prosthetic leg, Allison exudes confidence and resilience in every photo.

From Darkness to Light

Allison was born with a rare condition that left her left leg incomplete, ultimately leading to amputation. She struggled with body image issues and faced stigma from her peers. Growing up, Allison had a passion for sports, but she abandoned it during her teenage years due to discomfort with revealing her leg.

Everything changed when she was invited to join Canada's sitting volleyball team. Initially hesitant due to her fear of being judged for her disability, Allison was encouraged by her mother to give it a try. It was then that she discovered a loving community and began to see herself as a role model for others.

Adventuring to Find Herself

At just 16, she represented Canada in competitions around the world, from Europe to South America. Since then, Allison has become a travel enthusiast. By the age of 18, she embarked on backpacking journeys to Bali, Central America, and beyond, sometimes with friends and other times solo.

A memorable moment was when she shared a photo of herself in a bikini on a Thai beach, proudly displaying her prosthetic leg. This garnered positive feedback from the community and opened her eyes to the power of sharing her story. She decided to leverage social media to build a supportive community for everyone, regardless of ability.

A World for People with Disabilities

Allison emphasizes that people with disabilities are global citizens who deserve to explore the world, even when facing more challenges. She has taken part in activities like zip-lining and surfing in Costa Rica, kayaking from Panama to Colombia, and even sandboarding in the Sahara Desert.

Traveling in small groups also offers numerous benefits for those with special accessibility needs, alleviating the pressure of planning everything independently. Allison has had wonderful travel experiences with small groups in Jordan, Egypt, Vietnam, and Cambodia.

Next Destination

This strong woman plans to head to China for the World Sitting Volleyball Championship, making it her 40th country visited. Allison continues to share her experiences and takes pride in living authentically. Her advice for those yearning for adventure but feeling hesitant is to live for themselves and not be afraid of others' gazes. Life is a one-time opportunity—make the most of it!
