Discovering the Beauty of America's National Parks
I've wandered the globe for 15 years, but I must admit that my most memorable journeys have been to the national parks in the United States. Each park has its own unique charm, making it impossible to rank them. Instead of a ranking, I want to share my stories to help you choose the park that suits you best. Whether you're in search of breathtaking trails, family-friendly scenery, or a place to immerse yourself in the wild, this list is for you.
Must-Visit National Parks
If you're short on time, here are some parks you absolutely can't miss:
- Yellowstone: Famous for its wildlife and geothermal wonders.
- Zion: Offers unforgettable trails and stunning canyon views.
- Yosemite: Known for its granite cliffs and majestic waterfalls.
- Grand Canyon: Features breathtaking vistas and geological insights.
- Denali: A true wilderness adventure, showcasing North America's highest peak.
Yellowstone: The Wild Paradise
Visiting Yellowstone, you'll quickly understand why it's the first national park in both America and the world. It's renowned for its erupting geysers, bubbling mud pots, and the wildlife that roams the valleys. Each time I return, I’m captivated by the sight of bison crossing the valley—never a dull moment!
Tip: Instead of crowding at the Grand Prismatic Spring, hike up to the Grand Prismatic Overlook for a better view. The best times to visit are in the spring and fall when there are fewer tourists, making wildlife spotting easier.
Grand Canyon: A Geological Marvel
The Grand Canyon is truly awe-inspiring. Standing on the South Rim, I can hardly breathe from the sheer magnificence of the view before me. You must stay to watch the sunset to witness the canyon's colors transform.

Tip: Find a spot along the Rim Trail away from the crowds to enjoy the sunset. The best times to visit are from March to May and September to November.
Yosemite: A Photographer's Dream
My dream of visiting Yosemite began with a print of Ansel Adams' work back in college. When Dave and I finally made it here, we spent hours trying to capture that iconic scene with our own cameras. This is the perfect place for adventure seekers and photography enthusiasts alike.
Zion: The Crown Jewel of the 'Five Mighty'
Zion is one of the five most famous national parks in Utah, and it’s no surprise that it attracts many visitors. Unlike the Grand Canyon, Zion compels you to look up at the towering sandstone cliffs on either side.
Tip: The park's free shuttle bus is the best way to explore this stunning area. Spring and fall are the ideal seasons for visiting.
Denali: A True Wilderness Experience
Denali offers a wild experience on another level. Spanning over six million acres, there’s only one road that leads into the park. Every visit reminds you of the vastness and power of nature.
Tip: Consider taking a scenic flight to appreciate the scale of the Alaska Range and get a close-up view of Denali itself. Plus, you might spot bears, moose, and Dall sheep right from your bus window!
