Discovering Dallas Like a Local
Recently, I had the chance to visit the vibrant city of Dallas, and I quickly realized that it’s more than just a sports hub. Whether you're a sports fan or not, Dallas offers a plethora of exciting experiences, from sipping late-night drinks to enjoying the serene beauty of nature at the Dallas Arboretum in the early morning.
Sports in Dallas: More Than Just the Cowboys
The Dallas-Fort Worth area is renowned for its year-round sports culture, extending far beyond the beloved Cowboys football team. At AT&T Stadium, famously known as 'Jerry’s World,' you can immerse yourself in the electric atmosphere of major events, ranging from football games to concerts. I witnessed a flurry of activities leading up to the 2026 World Cup, where nine matches will take place.
A Variety of Engaging Activities
If you don’t have tickets to a game, fear not! You can still join a stadium tour to explore the impressive interior. And if you find yourself in Dallas before or after the matches, make sure to visit the Perot Museum, which features a special soccer exhibit with plenty of interactive stations to enjoy.
Exploring Art and Culture
Amidst the sports excitement, Dallas shines with a multitude of museums and cultural hotspots. The Arts District is home to major institutions like the Dallas Museum of Art and the Nasher Sculpture Center, where you can easily spend hours admiring the art collections.
Don’t miss the Bubble Museum in this area, which boasts fascinating interactive art exhibits where you can snap stunning photos with oversized, colorful installations.

Sipping on Creative Drinks
If you’re in the mood for a more lively atmosphere, The Midnight Rambler is a hidden gem located in the basement of the Joule Hotel, serving up exquisitely crafted cocktails in a unique style. For a taste of the Cowboy spirit, The Rodeo Bar promises fun-filled nights with sports events and quirky dollar bills adorning the walls.
Nature Retreat at the Dallas Arboretum
For a relaxing escape, the Dallas Arboretum & Botanical Garden is an ideal destination. This expansive garden is designed for you to lose yourself among the stunning flowers. Be sure to visit in the morning to witness the most breathtaking scenery.
Restaurants to Try
Back in the downtown area, La Stella Cucina offers upscale Italian cuisine accompanied by live piano music, while Miriam Cocina provides a rich culinary experience with its vibrant Mexican dishes. Be sure to try the margaritas here; the beautiful setting filled with greenery will surely enchant you.
Exploring Unique Neighborhoods
As you stroll through the city, don’t miss the Deep Ellum district, filled with intriguing shops and bars, where you can discover unique products and diverse culinary delights. I stumbled upon a restaurant called Palma, serving a delightful fusion of Mexican and Asian cuisine—definitely a must-try!
Planning Your Trip
Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport is one of the largest in the U.S., located less than 20 miles from downtown. To navigate between attractions, consider using ride-sharing services to save time and avoid traffic.
Lastly, if you're looking for accommodations, the JW Marriott Dallas Arts District is a perfect choice with its prime location and premium services. This trip will surely offer you unforgettable experiences!
