Delta Enhances Passenger Experience

This morning, Delta Air Lines announced some exciting news about passenger experiences. The airline introduced new business class suites that will debut on its Airbus A350-1000s, while also planning to upgrade the interiors of its entire Airbus A330-200/300 fleet.

Updating the Aging Airbus A330 Fleet

Currently, Delta operates 11 A330-200s and 31 A330-300s, with an average age exceeding 18 years. The interiors of these aircraft have become outdated, particularly the reverse herringbone business class seats, which no longer align with current trends. The new business class seats will be introduced on these A330s and are expected to be based on the Thompson Aero Vantage XL product, similar to what is currently found on the A330-900neo. This upgrade will feature a new design along with advanced technology, including 24-inch 4K OLED screens, Bluetooth connectivity, USB-A and AC charging ports, as well as wireless charging options.

Enhanced Privacy and Security

The new seats will be equipped with privacy doors, ensuring enhanced security for passengers. However, there are no plans to upgrade the current A330-900neo fleet, meaning the interiors of the A330ceos will stand out compared to the newer A330neos.

Delta's Commitment to Improvement

Delta has proudly led the way in enhancing customer experiences, having introduced the first all-suite business class cabin back in 2017. It wasn’t until four years later that another U.S. airline followed suit. Today, Delta continues to maintain its leading position with the most suites in U.S. airspace.

By 2030, Delta plans for 90% of its Delta One seats to feature privacy doors. However, this may not include all aircraft types, as some Boeing 767-400ERs may still be operating internationally by that time.

While Delta may have a higher ratio of seats with doors compared to American and United, achieving product consistency is not straightforward. The airline will implement at least four different versions of its business class suite, which could affect the overall passenger experience.
