Delta Air Lines has announced its new business class suites on the Airbus A350-1000, along with significant enhancements for economy passengers. Let's dive into the exciting new standards this airline is bringing to the skies.

Delta Unveils New Business Class Suites

Delta Air Lines has just announced its new business class suites that will debut on the Airbus A350-1000 as these aircraft are set to be delivered next year. Additionally, the airline will upgrade the interiors of its Airbus A330 fleet by adding suites with doors, which is great news for frequent flyers.

What’s even more exciting is that Delta is making substantial improvements for both economy and business class. The new business class suites on the A350-1000 feature Thompson’s VantageNova seat platform (distinct from the older VantageXL), with an extra 3 inches in bed length, totaling over 6.5 feet, providing ample space for relaxation.

Upgraded Cabin Amenities

Moreover, the seats will come with an additional layer of cushioning on top of the memory foam and a dedicated storage area for shoes. Interestingly, there is no enclosed compartment, but the design includes a spot to keep your phone within reach while lying down, as well as a hook for glasses. Overall, it's clear that the airline is committed to enhancing the customer experience.

The business class cabin on the A350-1000 will feature a reverse herringbone seat layout, allowing window seats to face outward, while the middle seats will have movable dividers for privacy or to connect with friends.

Improvements for Economy Class

While not as luxurious as business class, Delta ensures that many design elements will also be incorporated into the A330-200 and A330-300 suites, even though they will still utilize the older VantageXL seats. The airline will introduce 50% premium seating (including economy seats with extra legroom) on the new A350. This explains why Delta has opted for a basic business class policy, aimed at optimizing available seats and ticket sales.

In a surprising move, the airline is also promoting a new self-serve snack area, which wasn’t available before. On the A350-1000, it will be located at the main entrance, while on the A330, it will be situated at the front of the aircraft.

Other Notable Improvements

Despite Delta’s claims of numerous enhancements, some critics argue that the airline may be overstating its advancements and misrepresenting its categories. Delta prides itself on being the first airline to offer fully enclosed business class suites in the U.S., but Qatar Airways had already achieved this milestone.

Delta has stated that it plans for 90% of its business class seats to be suites with doors by 2030. This suggests that even four years from now, they will still be using many less-than-ideal business class seats. In fact, their current 767 product has become outdated and is no longer competitive.

Improvements in Economy Class

More importantly, the airline asserts that every seat across all cabins will feature larger entertainment screens, Bluetooth audio, USB-C ports, and AC power outlets. Many passengers will only travel in economy, so even small improvements can significantly enhance their experience.

The lack of cushioning in economy class has been a persistent issue, as airlines often neglect this area. The new economy seat design promises an additional inch of legroom and a small shelf on the seatback for personal items.

Final Thoughts

Ultimately, most passengers will fly in economy class, so even minor upgrades can make a big difference in their experience. Currently, Delta's business class on its Airbus A330s lags behind, and their 767 aircraft rank low in the industry. Upgrading the A330s and swiftly retiring the 767s from their fleet is essential.

Delta is pursuing the implementation of a new interior design style that they began rolling out last year, with plans to apply it to more than 800 aircraft over the next five years. Reports indicate that aircraft featuring the new interior design lead to higher customer satisfaction, with an increase of 25 points in satisfaction ratings.
