Delicious Porridge at Hong Ji (Zhou Pin) in Jurong West for Just 3.5 SGD
If you’re on the hunt for a tasty bowl of porridge to kickstart your day, look no further than Hong Ji (Zhou Pin) 洪記 (粥品) in Jurong West. Starting at just 3.5 SGD, this comforting dish is sure to satisfy. Located in the Jurong West 505 Market and Food Centre, there are three porridge stalls to choose from, but Hong Ji (Zhou Pin) stands out as the best option thanks to its affordable prices.
Special Choice
When I visited, I decided to try the herbal egg and pork porridge (S$3.50). To make my meal even heartier, I added an extra egg for just S$0.50. The bowl they served was impressively large, topped generously with crispy crullers and fried shallots, which was visually satisfying. Unlike many other stalls that skimp on toppings, this place definitely doesn’t hold back, and that’s something to commend.
Other Options
Hong Ji (Zhou Pin) also offers a variety of other porridge dishes, including mixed pork porridge (S$4) and the more unique Ting Zai porridge (up to S$5). The porridge is cooked to a silky smooth consistency and boasts a rich flavor, thanks to the addition of scallion water, sesame oil, white pepper, and green onions. Even without any additional ingredients, the porridge is delicious on its own.
A Small Issue with the Crullers
When I tried the crullers, I noticed a slight off taste, perhaps due to being fried in old oil. While the crunchiness of the crullers was fantastic, the flavor could use some improvement. However, the porridge itself was perfectly smooth, with just the right thickness, blending wonderfully with the toppings.

A Perfect Combination
When I mixed the egg into the porridge, I found that it became a bit thinner. If you prefer thicker porridge, it might be better to let the egg cook a little before stirring it in, or simply skip the egg altogether.
Overall Impression
Every spoonful of porridge came with tender, lightly seasoned pieces of pork, along with plenty of herbal egg. The pork was soft and free of any unpleasant odors, pairing exceptionally well with the porridge and fragrant fried shallots. A touch of ginger could elevate the dish even further.
Meal Evaluation
It’s quite rare to find a fulfilling meal for just 3.5 SGD these days. With generous portions and a plethora of ingredients, Hong Ji (Zhou Pin) truly offers great value. Since the porridge is freshly cooked on-site, it’s no surprise that there’s often a long line of customers waiting in the morning.
Opening Hours
If you plan to visit on a Saturday, be aware that the stall closes earlier, around 2-3 PM, while on other days, it’s open from 6-8 PM. While it may not be a bowl of porridge that compels you to return, it certainly meets your needs, especially at this price point.
Conclusion
If you find yourself in the area and craving a warm meal, Hong Ji (Zhou Pin) 洪記 (粥品) is definitely a spot you shouldn’t miss.
