If you’re a fan of Korean cuisine in Singapore, you absolutely cannot miss Jade's Chicken. Tucked away in a corner of Johnson Eatery at Lorong 1 Toa Payoh, this authentic Korean food stall is owned by Koreans themselves. When it comes to genuine flavors, this place has got it covered.

Irresistible Korean Fried Chicken

Previously part of the famous Waker Chicken chain known for its rich Korean fried chicken, this stall has rebranded but kept the original flavors intact, even adding some new dishes to the menu like jjajangmyeon and tteokbokki. I tried the Honey Butter Fried Chicken, which features crispy chicken coated in a sweet honey butter batter for SGD 15 for half a chicken. The meat was tender and juicy, never dry, with a delightful honey butter coating that kept me coming back for more.

If you enjoy a spicy kick, you must try the Sweet Spicy Tenders — small, boneless chicken pieces that are perfectly crispy. The sweet and spicy sauce covers the chicken evenly, with a sprinkle of sesame seeds adding an unexpected allure. Despite the chicken being tender, the skin retains its crunchiness. I found this dish even more delicious and complex thanks to its signature sauce.

Explore Other Korean Delights

But Jade's Chicken doesn’t just stop at fried chicken; they offer other Korean dishes as well. I sampled the Jjajangmyeon for SGD 7 — soft yellow noodles mixed with a savory black bean sauce. The noodles were tender, and the sauce had a subtle smoky flavor. However, I felt there wasn't quite enough sauce; a little more would have made it perfect. For SGD 7, it felt a bit pricey for a bowl of noodles.

I haven’t had the chance to try it yet, but I’ve heard the tofu soup and cheese ramen here are also worth a taste. They are priced at SGD 7.50 and SGD 6.50, respectively. Next time I visit, I will definitely make sure to try those!

Final Thoughts

Jade's Chicken offers a wallet-friendly Korean dining experience right here in Singapore. While it may not be fine dining, the stall impresses with its comforting and authentic flavors. If you find yourself near Toa Payoh, take a stroll and enjoy a meal — you won’t regret it!
