Golden Sleep: How to Book a Hotel Room for Just $16

You might not dislike overnight flights as much as I do, but if you have to take one, you definitely need a good sleep afterward. Recently, I experienced a night flight from Hawaii back to the mainland due to an impending storm, which cut our family vacation short. Landing at 6 AM at Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) with two kids after a sleepless night was truly a nightmare, especially having to wait until 3 or 4 PM to check into our hotel.

A Solution with Day Use Hotels

However, I discovered a fantastic option. Instead of waiting like zombies until check-in time, I booked a day-use room for just $16.50 an hour through Dayuse.com. This was the perfect solution to catch some much-needed sleep without paying the hefty price of an overnight stay.

How Day Use Hotels Work

Hotels, especially in major airports and bustling cities, often have rooms available for day use without requiring an overnight stay. You can book directly with the hotel, but usually, you have to call to check availability. Thankfully, there are a few websites that allow you to search and book multiple day-use hotels at once, which saves a lot of time.

Simple Booking Process

On Dayuse.com, I only had to pay a small booking fee (around $7), with the rest to be settled at the hotel upon check-in. Another great feature is that I could cancel for free up to two hours before the rental period ends, which is super convenient if plans change unexpectedly.

Affordable Rates and Flexible Timing

Day-use hotel rooms can be booked from 5 AM to 11 PM, and prices are typically 50% to 75% lower than overnight rates. You can rent a room for just a few hours or longer, depending on your needs.

Relax and Enjoy the Amenities

When you book a day-use room, you also get access to on-site amenities like pools or gyms. This is truly a great option for those frequently traveling between flights or needing a temporary place to rest.

Choosing the Right Hotel

When booking, I needed a hotel that was ready for me upon my early morning arrival. After searching and checking reviews, I chose the Sonesta Los Angeles Airport LAX from 7 AM to 2 PM for $116 (plus tax). That breaks down to about $16.50 for each hour of much-needed rest.

Recognizing the Value of Sleep

The booking process was incredibly easy, from the free shuttle service from LAX to quick check-in and being allowed into my room a few minutes early. The room was freshly renovated, the bed was extremely comfortable, and I enjoyed some precious hours of rest.

Conclusion

If you’ve just had an overnight flight or need a hotel room at an odd hour, booking a day-use hotel is the ideal solution. With prices often lower than overnight stays, you’ll get the sleep you need.
