Introducing Supergrai
Located in the heart of Kuala Lumpur near Petaling Street, REXKL has become a go-to spot for those looking to unwind. With its cozy atmosphere, diverse food offerings, and a blend of coffee shops and vintage stores, Supergrai is a new name to remember on your next visit to the area.
This eatery specializes in traditional Malaysian dishes such as nasi lemak and char kuey teow, along with other local favorites like nasi goreng and laksa that are sure to warm your heart and fill your stomach. The prices are very reasonable, especially considering REXKL's prime location. The drink menu is equally impressive, featuring refreshing options like iced tea, sirap, and a variety of other cool beverages, perfect for those hot days in Kuala Lumpur.
Must-Try Dishes at Supergrai
Let's dive straight into the main dishes, starting with the nasi lemak ayam goreng berempah (RM18.87). Like many other places, Supergrai serves a whole chicken thigh, which I found to be a great choice. If you're a fan of chicken breast, you might feel a bit disappointed.
What surprised me was the rice. The rice here is not only fragrant but also rich and creamy, thanks to being cooked in coconut milk, with just the right amount of seasoning. It’s so delicious that you could enjoy it on its own—definitely a big plus. The accompanying sambal is also quite impressive, featuring two types: a traditional sambal and a sambal hitam, which I suspect is their homemade version. The traditional sambal is a bit salty and spicy, packed with dried shrimp flavor, making it a perfect match for the rice. On the other hand, the sambal hitam has a mild sourness and might be a bit intense on its own, but it blends beautifully with the rice.

As for the fried chicken, I found it to be somewhat lacking. While the seasoning was robust, the exterior was quite hard, making it a bit challenging to bite into. It seems the batter might have been too thin, resulting in a less crispy finish than expected.
Char Kuey Teow: The Second Star
Next up is the char kuey teow (RM17.92), another crowd favorite here. The portion is quite generous, featuring shrimp and clams (though they are frozen), which add to the flavor and crunch. I also appreciated the addition of sliced chili on the side—a detail often overlooked but essential for this dish.
Each bite of char kuey teow delivers satisfaction with its bold flavors and a hint of smokiness from the charred edges. While I wish it had a stronger wok hei flavor, overall, it’s a plate worth trying.
Refreshing Beverages
To round out my meal, I ordered Teh Ais (RM6.60) and Sirap Ais (RM5.66), both of which were not overly sweet. They were refreshing and easy to drink, especially after such a hearty meal.
Getting to Supergrai
Supergrai is located within the REXKL complex, making it easy to find. The nearest MRT station is Pasar Seni, and it’s just a short walk from there. You can check Google Maps for easier navigation: Google Maps.
Supergrai Review
Whether or not to visit Supergrai really depends on your personal preferences. If you’re on the lookout for nasi lemak, I think it’s a reasonable choice while you’re at REXKL. Overall, the nasi lemak here is decent, but the fried chicken didn’t leave a strong impression during my visit.
On the flip side, the char kuey teow is the reason I’d want to come back. While there are still areas for improvement, Supergrai has shown a clear direction and is definitely on the right track.
