Exciting News for United Airlines Flight Attendants

Last week, we learned that United Airlines flight attendants might be getting a new contract after lengthy negotiations. Now, we have some major updates as the details of the contract have been unveiled. Let’s dive in and see what’s happening!

Temporary Agreement Reached

The Association of Flight Attendants-CWA (AFA) and United Airlines have announced that they have reached a temporary agreement for a new contract covering 30,000 flight attendants. Over the past few years, we’ve seen most flight attendants from major U.S. airlines negotiating new contracts post-pandemic. While Delta flight attendants, who are not unionized, automatically received pay raises, United’s crew was the last group still without a new contract.

Lengthy Negotiation Process

In mid-2025, a temporary agreement was proposed, but flight attendants voted against it, with 71% opposing the contract. This drawn-out negotiation process has created quite a bit of tension between management and the union.

Details of the New Contract

The specifics of the temporary agreement have now been disclosed. Voting on the new contract will take place from April 23 to May 12, and if approved, the contract will become effective on May 31, 2026. Although United has been improving its financial situation in recent years, they still face numerous challenges in maintaining a positive relationship with their employees.

Key Improvements

Flight attendants can look forward to several significant enhancements in the new contract, such as improved base pay, restrictions on night flights, and increased wages for shifts exceeding 2.5 hours. Additionally, there will be a provision for back pay.

Back Pay Details

Flight attendants will receive back pay dating back several years, calculated as a percentage of their eligible earnings. Specifically, they will receive 4% of their wages for the period from September to December 2021, 4% for the years 2022, 2023, and 2024, 22% for 2025, and 25% for the months from January to May 2026.

Conclusion

At long last, United Airlines flight attendants and management have come to a temporary agreement on the contract, following a decision by members to reject the proposed contract for 2025. The details of the new contract have been published, and there are some concrete improvements.

We hope that the flight attendants will be satisfied with this agreement and that it will be ratified, helping to resolve the differences between management and staff. It will be interesting to see how this impacts United’s financial situation moving forward.

What are your thoughts on United flight attendants reaching another temporary agreement? We’d love to hear your opinions!
