Embark on a 10-day adventure through Northern California and Oregon, featuring stunning national parks like Lassen Volcanic, Crater Lake, and the Redwood forest. Detailed itinerary and useful tips for Vietnamese travelers.
Introduction to the Journey
This trip spans 10 days through the breathtaking landscapes of Northern California and Oregon, featuring Lassen Volcanic National Park, Crater Lake, and the iconic Redwood National and State Parks. Beyond these destinations, you can also enjoy the scenic coastal route of Oregon and explore hidden caves. If you have extra time, consider visiting San Francisco, Yosemite, or the famous vineyards in California like Napa or Sonoma.
In September 2025, Tim, Tyler, and I embarked on this journey as part of our goal to visit all 63 national parks in the United States, and this trip allowed us to explore 55 parks!

The journey covers approximately 1,500 miles (about 2,400 km) and includes:

Discovering the Destinations
Lassen Volcanic National Park is one of the lesser-known yet stunning destinations with its geothermal features and volcanic landscapes. Crater Lake is among the most impressive national parks, boasting striking blue waters, while the Redwood parks are famous for their towering ancient trees, allowing you to immerse yourself in the grandeur of nature.
Car Rental Guide
To explore these parks, renting a car is essential. A standard vehicle should suffice as most roads in the three parks are paved. However, some sections may require driving on gravel, but this is limited to specific locations.
Best Time for Travel
This trip is best undertaken from mid-July to mid-October when the park roads are fully open. Avoid traveling in winter or late spring, as cold weather can render some roads inaccessible.
