An unforgettable experience on Thai Airways from Bangkok to Milan. Enjoy exceptional service and luxurious surroundings.

My First Flight Back on Thai Airways

It had been quite a while since I last flew with Thai Airways, and my recent journey from Bangkok (BKK) to Milan (MXP) truly delighted me. After nearly 11 hours on the Boeing 787, I can confidently say it was one of the most relaxing experiences I've ever had.

While the seating was nothing out of the ordinary—featuring a traditional reverse herringbone layout—the service was impeccable. I enjoyed a delicious meal that included caviar, and the attentive crew made me feel warmly welcomed throughout the flight.

How to Book with Thai Airways

I booked my entire trip home on a single ticket. To secure my seat on this flight, I used 87,500 Aeroplan points from Air Canada and paid around $138 in taxes and fees. The itinerary included:

  • 11/22 TG940 from Bangkok to Milan, departing at 12:35 AM and arriving at 7:10 AM
  • 11/22 LX1613 from Milan to Zurich, departing at 10:30 AM and arriving at 11:35 AM
  • 11/22 LX52 from Zurich to Boston, departing at 5:30 PM and arriving at 8:00 PM

I found using Aeroplan points for this flight to be a great value, especially if you plan to stop in Europe, as you only need an additional 5,000 points for that.

Exploring the Thai Airways Lounge

Before my flight, I visited several lounges at Bangkok airport, including the Thai Airways Lounge, Turkish Airlines Lounge, and EVA Air Lounge. Having multiple lounge options made my wait more comfortable before boarding.

My flight departed from gate D7 with boarding starting at 12:05 AM. The boarding process was very orderly, which has always been my experience with Thai Airways.

Business Class Seating Area

Upon entering the aircraft through the front door, I was warmly greeted and led to the business class section. Thai Airways' cabin features 30 seats arranged in a 1-2-1 configuration, ideal for privacy.

I chose seat 19A, a window seat in the last row. This seating arrangement allows for spaciousness and closeness to fellow travelers, although it can be a bit challenging to converse without leaning forward.

In-Seat Amenities

The seat features a storage area for hanging headphones, an entertainment control panel, and a USB outlet. The foldable table pulls out from the side of the seat and needs to be flipped to fully extend.

However, I found it lacking that the seat didn't have a USB-C port or wireless charging support; it only had an AC outlet and USB-A. I did appreciate the individual air vent feature, which isn’t commonly found on many airlines.

In-Flight Entertainment

The in-seat entertainment screen is 16 inches and adjustable for viewing angles. While the entertainment system isn’t the latest model, it was sufficient for my needs, offering a variety of movies and games.

I always keep an eye on the flight map during the journey, feeling like I’m part of the adventure. Wi-Fi is also available onboard, although it’s not as fast as some of the most modern systems.

Final Thoughts

Overall, my experience with Thai Airways this time was thoroughly enjoyable, from the service to the amenities. I look forward to the airline launching its new business class product soon, which will undoubtedly elevate its standing even further in the aviation industry.
