Join me as I recount my unforgettable birthday journey in Thailand, filled with exciting experiences and delightful flights.
Introduction to the Journey
Welcome to my travel report where I share the enchanting birthday journey I've just experienced. This time, instead of keeping a diary throughout the trip as I usually do, I focused more on enjoying the moments. Now that I’m back, I’m eager to share all the details of my adventure with you.
The journey was divided into two parts: the first half with my friend Ford and the second half with my dad. We typically plan a trip for my birthday every year, not just to celebrate but also as an opportunity to do something we might not otherwise prioritize. This year, we decided to head to Thailand to mark my birthday. Ford hadn’t traveled to Southeast Asia since before the pandemic, and he had never been to Thailand. This made us feel it was the perfect time to embark on this plan.
Travel Information
We left the kids with family, and I flew ahead to explore a few hotels I had in mind, with Ford joining me later for our visits to Bangkok and Chiang Rai. Since our time was limited, I set off a bit earlier to check out some accommodations.
I flew with Qatar Airways from Miami to Doha and then on to Bangkok. I booked both flights for a total of approximately 95,000 Avios and $298.10 in taxes and fees. This is a price you’d be hard-pressed to find with other airlines.
The Flight to Thailand
During this trip, I flew on several different aircraft. For the leg from Bangkok to Chiang Rai, I opted for Thai Airways, spending around $330.24 for a business class ticket. This isn’t too pricey compared to economy class, especially given the recent spike in airfare.
After my time in Thailand, I decided to continue my journey to Germany. I flew with Royal Jordanian to Frankfurt, which cost about 75,000 miles and $80.40 in taxes and fees. This also seemed quite reasonable, especially considering the current challenges many airlines are facing with pricing and availability.

Notable Hotels
In Thailand, we stayed at five different hotels. Bangkok is known for being one of the most competitive luxury hotel markets, with plenty of great options. I stayed at Rosewood Bangkok, which costs around $300 per night, but I used hotel credits from my Amex Platinum to offset the cost. I also had the chance to stay at Capella Bangkok, a rising star in the hotel rankings.
My next stop was Four Seasons Bangkok, located in the same complex as Capella. Each hotel offered unique experiences and services that were at a different level, leaving me satisfied with every choice. In the end, I decided to stay at Aman Bangkok, which is newly opened and attracting attention among travelers.
A Special Trip to Chiang Rai
Alongside Bangkok, we couldn’t forget Chiang Rai, particularly the Four Seasons Tented Camp Golden Triangle. This was my first visit to the area, and I genuinely couldn’t have imagined how amazing the experience would be. I had an exciting excursion from the hotel that I can’t wait to share with you.
On the second day, a delightful surprise occurred when we stumbled upon something interesting along the Mekong River. I managed to convince the hotel to take us on a visit, something that hadn’t happened in years. Who would have guessed? 🌟
Helpful Information for Vietnamese Travelers
If you’re considering a trip to Thailand, keep in mind that Vietnamese visitors do not need a visa for stays of up to 30 days. Flight prices from Vietnam to Bangkok typically range from 5-7 million VND. The peak tourist season usually runs from November to March when the weather is pleasant, but you can also find good flight deals during the low season from May to October.
The cost of living in Thailand is quite reasonable. A meal at a casual restaurant is about 300,000 VND, while dining at luxury hotels will be more expensive but worth it. Be prepared for rich cultural experiences and a diverse culinary scene that this country offers.
If you have the chance to explore the Golden Triangle, don’t forget to savor local delicacies and participate in exciting activities like visiting temples and experiencing the local way of life. Each destination has its unique charms waiting for you to discover.
