In 2025, JetBlue and Barclays launched the JetBlue Premier Card with an annual fee of $499. The aim was to accompany the expansion of JetBlue's lounge system while meeting the increasing demand from customers for premium credit cards.

However, upon its initial release, the card didn't quite capture the attention it was expected to. Personally, I found it somewhat challenging to take full advantage of its benefits, especially since the card was introduced before the first lounge even opened. Recently, though, JetBlue and Barclays announced some positive updates for this card, which will certainly change the way people perceive this product.

Companion Card Discounts: Cardholders can receive discounts for a companion card (worth up to $500) after spending $15,000 in a year, and another companion card (worth up to $1,500) after spending $75,000 annually. You must book and pay for the trip for your companion, and the discount will be applied after both travelers complete their journey.
Bonus 25 Points: At the end of each year, the card will award cardholders 25 points, bringing them closer to Mosaic 1 status. As before, you'll earn 1 point for every $1,000 spent on eligible purchases, which is consistent with other JetBlue credit cards.
15% Cashback on Points Redemption: Cardholders will receive 15% cashback when using points for award flights on JetBlue and partner airlines.
Discounts up to $300: Cardholders can earn discounts of up to $300 each year when using the card for hotels, car rentals, and cruises through TrueBlue Travel (spending $250 or more in a single transaction earns $50, with a maximum of 6 times per year).

Review of the New Features

These changes significantly enhance the card's appeal. When JetBlue and Barclays first rolled out the JetBlue Premier card, I wondered what they were thinking. The card lacked standout features and seemed to provide insufficient motivation for users to engage with the JetBlue TrueBlue program, which the airline desperately needs.

For instance, the card did not offer a shortcut to reach elite status compared to other cards, which felt like a missed opportunity. However, with the current updates, the addition of 25 points will be beneficial for anyone looking to elevate their JetBlue status. Plus, the 15% cashback on award flights is a substantial improvement over the 10% cashback offered by other JetBlue cards.

The Value of the Companion Card

I find the companion card discount to be the most intriguing offer. While there are some spending limits ($500 and $1,500), if you can maximize this benefit, the returns can be significant. For example, if you spend $15,000, you’ll receive a $500 rebate, translating to a cashback rate of up to 3.33%, not including the points you earn.

Moreover, if you spend $75,000, you’ll accumulate a total of 100 points, reaching Mosaic 2 status (25 points simply for being a cardholder and 75 points for your spending). You’ll also receive $1,500 from the companion card discount, in addition to the points you’ve accrued.

Conclusion

The JetBlue Premier Card was introduced in early 2025 but didn’t garner much attention due to its relatively weak benefits. However, the card's value has significantly improved with the addition of 25 points, 15% cashback on points redemption, and the potential to earn up to $2,000 annually through the companion card discounts. While I still don’t think this card is a must-have for everyone, it has certainly become a more attractive product. This card is now much more competitive than it was before.
