Visit Nai Nai Flavor in Singapore

Nai Nai Flavor, a renowned culinary brand from Hangzhou, has officially opened its doors in Singapore! Located at i12 Katong, this restaurant brings a little slice of Hangzhou’s rich culinary culture to local diners.

Hangzhou cuisine, part of the Zhejiang culinary tradition, is one of the eight great culinary traditions of China, known for its elegant and balanced flavors. Now, Singaporeans don’t have to travel far to savor the exquisite dishes from Hangzhou.

Explore the Unique Menu

One dish that you absolutely must try is the Chicken and Pork Soup (S$16.80 for medium, S$29.80 for large) - a secret recipe from grandma. The broth is simmered in a clay pot for about 4 hours with pig trotters and a whole chicken, resulting in a sweet and delicate flavor, topped with a layer of tofu skin that keeps it warm. As you stir the broth, the steam rises, filling the air with a delightful aroma, revealing tender pieces of meat, mushrooms, corn, and red dates floating in the golden broth.

The meat here is incredibly tender, easily falling off the bone, while the broth is not overly rich but instead bursting with gentle herbal flavors that remind you of home-cooked meals from grandma.

Special Fried Buns

Sheng Jian Bao are typically made with meat, but at Nai Nai Flavor, there's a lighter version called Spicy Fried Buns with Tofu (S$12.80). These buns are handmade, filled with smooth tofu, and then fried until the bottom is crispy. Topped with a layer of egg that forms an omelette-like base, they are simply irresistible.

Sprinkled with sesame seeds and green onions, these buns are both soft and crispy, perfectly complementing the gentle tofu filling. Honestly, if there were no other dishes to try, I could easily finish this dish all by myself just because it’s that delicious!

Youbu Style Egg Cake

The Youbu Style Egg Cake is one of the restaurant’s specialties, and I opted for the Spicy Chicken and Potato version (S$11.80). The staff at the restaurant take great care in preparing the cakes, frying them carefully for that perfect crispy crust.

This method has been around for 1,300 years, where eggs are mixed into the batter while frying. The result is golden cakes, cut into four pieces for easy eating. I truly enjoyed the crispy outer layer combined with the spicy chicken and potato filling inside, experiencing two traditional dishes in one delightful bite.

Soups and Desserts

Instead of large, cumbersome xiao long bao, try the Classic Soup Dumplings from Shaoxing (S$11.50). These dumplings are filled with pork and light broth, garnished with minced eggs and a bit of soy sauce on top. Each small dumpling is packed with flavor, bursting with taste with every bite.

The Shrimp and Tomato Noodles (S$12.80) is another standout dish that I couldn't pass up. The noodles are deliciously chewy, and when combined with eggs and ripe tomatoes, they create a wonderfully refreshing flavor.

Don’t forget dessert! The Traditional Pear Soup (S$11.80) is a favorite among many home cooks, featuring snow pears, snow fungus, red dates, and dried grapes simmered to perfection, resulting in a lightly sweet broth that is truly the perfect ending to your meal.

Who Should Visit

Nai Nai Flavor is perfect for those who appreciate a variety of dishes with gentle flavors. For a complete experience, customers should order at least one soup, one fried dish, one steamed bun, one rice or noodle dish, and one dessert to share among the table.

How to Get to Nai Nai Flavor

Nai Nai Flavor is located at i12 Katong. The nearest MRT station is Marine Parade (TE26), just a 5 to 8-minute walk away. Alternatively, you can take a bus and alight at the stops Opp 112 Katong, i12 Katong, or The Holy Family Ch.

Final Thoughts

I wholeheartedly recommend visiting Nai Nai Flavor. The dishes here are not merely your average Chinese food; they offer a unique experience and a distinct style. Be sure to try the Youbu Style Egg Cake and the Spicy Fried Buns with Tofu!
