Explore Mee+, a newly opened eatery in Singapore serving delicious Malaysian dishes starting from just 80,000 VND.

Introducing Mee+

Located at 477 Tampines Street 43, Mee+ is a cozy new eatery that just opened its doors a week ago, founded by two friends passionate about preserving Malay street food culture. Sydi, 37, learned the trade from his parents, who run a nasi padang shop, while Arrell, 26, left his job as a flight attendant to pursue his love for cooking and enjoying Malay dishes, despite his Chinese heritage.

A Cozy Atmosphere

The space at Mee+ is quite compact, featuring an air-conditioned seating area for about 14 people and an outdoor area that can accommodate an additional 6 guests. Notably, the menu is very accessible for the elderly in the area, with prices ranging from 80,000 to 100,000 VND (S$3.80 - S$4.50) per dish, and there are no taxes or service charges.

Fresh and Tasty Cuisine from the Kitchen

All dishes, including sambal nasi lemak, lontong sauce, and mee rebus broth, are made entirely from fresh ingredients sourced on-site. Currently, Mee+ is in the process of obtaining Halal certification, ensuring that their menu can cater to all dietary needs.

Signature Dishes

The Lontong, priced at just 80,000 VND, offers a generous serving with large rice cakes, a boiled egg, sambal, and familiar vegetables like green beans, carrots, and cabbage. Notably, this dish includes serundeng — spiced grated coconut, adding an extra layer of flavor. The sauce here is rich and well-balanced, making it easy to enjoy even after several bites.

Next up is Mee Rebus (80,000 VND), a traditional dish made with sweet potato sauce for a thick and hearty texture. This dish comes with a boiled egg, pieces of tau pok, bean sprouts, fresh spring onions, and green chilies. The sauce has a mild sweetness and earthy flavor that clings perfectly to each strand of golden noodle.

Special Nasi Lemak

The Nasi Lemak is priced at 100,000 VND and includes crispy chicken wings, anchovies (no peanuts), a fried egg, and the signature sambal. Customers can add side dishes like sambal quail eggs (40,000 VND), hotdogs (15,000 VND), or beef bagedil (25,000 VND). The rice is basmati, light and fluffy, with a gentle coconut aroma and a hint of lemongrass. While I thought the rice could use a bit more coconut flavor, the sambal here is truly delicious.

A Final Experience with Mee Soto

We concluded our meal with Mee Soto (80,000 VND) — yellow noodles served with shredded chicken, bean sprouts, and fried shallots, all immersed in a fragrant chicken broth. Typically, this is one of the dishes we order least when eating Malay noodles, but this version at Mee+ was surprisingly delightful. The broth is light yet flavorful, with just the right hint of dill and cumin.

A Must-Visit Destination

With reasonable prices and excellent food quality, Mee+ is a must-visit for anyone who loves Malay cuisine. Even though it has been open for less than a month, Sydi and Arrell have successfully brought authentic flavors and textures to the table. If you're craving Malay dishes, make sure to stop by Mee+ and meet these friendly owners!
