New Orleans is truly a paradise for food lovers. Join us as we explore must-visit dining spots and fantastic hotels in this vibrant city.

A Culinary Destination in New Orleans

New Orleans consistently ranks among the top food cities in the United States. For quite some time, I've been eager to indulge in powdered sugar beignets at Café du Monde and savor the pecan-crusted salmon at Commander’s Palace. However, this city offers more than just Cajun or Creole cuisine; it's a melting pot of diverse flavors from Mexican to West African and Indian, all contributing to the lively atmosphere of New Orleans.

Exploring Marigny and the French Quarter

Kick off your culinary journey with some pastries to-go in the serene Marigny neighborhood. A morning visit to Ayu Bakehouse, while most are still waking up, is a delightful experience. I particularly enjoyed the parmesan cheese biscuits with chives and the sweet kaya bread (don't forget to ask for a bit of chili oil to enhance the flavor), paired with a seasonal drink.

Make sure to stop by Loretta’s Pralines, famous not only for its beignets but also for praline-stuffed beignets, cheeseburgers, and even crab-stuffed beignets. Speaking of beignets, Café du Monde has multiple locations, but the one in City Park is a hidden gem: its indoor seating keeps you cool while you wait for your order. Be sure to grab a hot or iced café au lait to enjoy alongside your beignets.

Strolling along the Mississippi River or sipping a frozen cocktail from Fat Tuesday is a delightful little treat. In addition to traditional flavors like 190 Octane, piña colada, and margarita, you can also try a variety of creative specialty cocktails.

Hotel Peter and Paul

At Hotel Peter and Paul, every corner invites you to capture the moment. Once a Catholic school and church from the 19th century, this hotel is steeped in history, featuring vintage rotary phones in each room. The friendly and warm staff, along with a map highlighting favorite local bars and restaurants, ensures you won't miss out on any hotspots.

During your stay, be sure to visit Elysian Bar for fresh dishes like snapper with pickled grapes and the enticing Dearly Beloved cocktail crafted from unique ingredients.

Four Seasons New Orleans

If you're seeking a luxurious experience, the Four Seasons is a must-visit. Located by the river, this hotel features large floor-to-ceiling windows that offer stunning views of the city and the river. It maintains a peaceful ambiance away from the hustle and bustle of the French Quarter while still being close to popular attractions.

Don’t miss the Chandelier Bar, adorned with an impressive chandelier made from 15,000 crystals. Additionally, be sure to dine at the hotel’s two restaurants, Miss River and Chemin à la Mer, which serve innovative dishes from top chefs.

Windsor Court

Windsor Court feels like a trip to England without needing a passport. With grand paintings and luxurious interiors, this hotel is just steps away from the French Quarter, making it easy to immerse yourself in the New Orleans vibe. The afternoon tea service at Le Salon is not just about the food; it's a delightful experience.

The selection of pastries, finger sandwiches, and the lovely people-watching space is well worth making a reservation, especially during the busy holiday season.

Virgin Hotels New Orleans

If you love unique design spaces, the Virgin Hotel in the Central Business District is the perfect spot. The rooms are decorated in vibrant colors with plush beds and signature red Smeg mini-fridges. Plus, foodies should check out the rooftop pool and Commons Club restaurant, helmed by Chef Chris Borges.

The Garden District and Uptown

For a taste of traditional Creole flavors, head to Surrey’s Cafe and Juice Bar. The food here is rich and full of flavor, making you feel right at home in New Orleans. Don’t miss the French toast or any crab dishes.

Before you stroll along Magazine Street, stop by Gris-Gris to fuel up for a day of exploration. Their pork ribs and roasted chicken are definitely worth a try.

Next up is Pascal's Manale, serving Italian Creole cuisine since 1913. Their BBQ shrimp is a must-try, alongside veal parmesan and crab cakes.

If you’re in the mood for a surprise, head to Charlie's Steakhouse. This restaurant has no menu; the staff will recommend dishes to each table, and don’t forget to order the delicious sides like onion rings or crabmeat au gratin.

Hotel Saint Vincent

In the Lower Garden District, you’ll find Hotel Saint Vincent, a boutique hotel transformed from an orphanage. This hotel is beloved by locals for its convenient parking, exciting events, tranquil pool, and unique dining options like San Lorenzo (Italian) and Elizabeth Street Cafe (French-Vietnamese).

The space is beautifully decorated with vintage artwork, pink-tiled bathrooms, and tree-lined hallways that make you want to linger.

The Chloe

If you're looking for a sweet and romantic atmosphere, The Chloe is the perfect choice. This 19th-century building features only 14 rooms, with luxurious and charming interiors. You can enjoy complimentary breakfast made to order anywhere, and the outdoor space with swing chairs is a lovely place to soak in the beauty of Saint Charles Street.

The Chloe's restaurant serves creative takes on New Orleans cuisine that are sure to satisfy. The pool here is a refreshing retreat after a long day of culinary adventures.
