Explore the delightful appam and thosai at Heavens in Singapore. Discover tips and insights for Vietnamese travelers.
Introduction to Ghim Moh Road Market & Food Centre
Located at 20 Ghim Moh Road Market & Food Centre, Heavens is a popular spot known for its mouthwatering Indian cuisine, where you can indulge in delicious appam and thosai starting at just 45,000 VND. Upon hearing about Heavens, a restaurant specializing in appam, my curiosity got the better of me, and I decided to drop by for a taste.
Appam - An Unforgettable Delight
As soon as I arrived at Heavens, I was immediately captivated by their appam. Wow, the appam here feels like a dish straight from paradise. Alongside the main dish, you will find three enticing sauces: a vibrant orange tomato chutney, a creamy white coconut chutney, and a rich yellow dhal. The tomato chutney, with its bright orange color, is not just a feast for the eyes but also has an irresistible aroma.
I decided to try the Princess Appam (S$4 - about 68,000 VND) simply because of its charming name. This dish boasts a rich flavor, featuring a secret recipe that includes a slice of melted cheese and a fried egg in the center. I must say, this dish truly lives up to its name, looking quite regal!
Savoring Appam from Heavens
For just S$4, I received two regular appams, and I genuinely regretted not ordering more. The appam has a slight tanginess, with a crispy edge and a soft, moist center. It reminded me of min jiang kueh. To enhance the flavor, I added some grated coconut and sugar on top, making the appam absolutely divine and satisfying.
Exploring Thosai
After enjoying enough appam, I was curious to learn about other standout dishes and was informed that everything on the menu is a bestseller. Excitedly, I ordered the Royal Thosai (S$5.50 - about 87,000 VND). This dish comes with three types of sauces, just like the appam, including a spicy tomato chutney. The thosai has a thin, crispy exterior filled with a flavorful potato masala, along with onions, cheese, and eggs.

Final Thoughts
To be honest, the thosai doesn’t retain its crispiness as long as the appam. However, the combination of the crispy skin and the delicious filling created an unforgettable flavor. The spicy tomato chutney, in particular, was incredibly appealing with just the right amount of heat and a delightful aroma that paired perfectly with the sweetness of the potatoes.
I was thoroughly satisfied with my experience at Heavens. The food truly made me feel like I was in heaven. If you ever find yourself in Singapore, be sure to try the appam and thosai here. I can’t wait to return to sample other special dishes like Puttu Mayam (S$2.80 - about 45,000 VND).
