Explore Mr Bready, a popular stall at Mei Ling Market known for its unique huat kueh. A delightful culinary experience awaits in Singapore.
Introduction to Huat Kueh
Huat Kueh, a traditional steamed cake from the Chinese culture, is often enjoyed during festive occasions such as Lunar New Year or used as offerings for good fortune. However, in Singapore, Mr Bready has elevated this traditional treat with innovative flavors that are simply irresistible.
Mr Bready: A Hub of Huat Kueh Creativity
Located in the Mei Ling Market & Food Centre, Mr Bready was established in 2016 by two friends, Rodney and Jason. Initially focused on selling bread, they decided to experiment with huat kueh in response to customer demand. After extensive research and testing, they launched their unique creations featuring flavors like matcha, dark chocolate, and mango peach.
Signature Flavors
At Mr Bready, you can find between 6 to 7 different types of huat kueh, all freshly made each day using high-quality ingredients. Notably, their products contain no artificial flavors or colors.
During my visit, I sampled several varieties, and my first impression was the Raisin Walnut flavor (S$2). This traditional huat kueh features a sweet potato base topped with raisins and walnuts, offering a smooth texture and a natural flavor from the palm sugar.
Sampling Unique Flavors
Next, I couldn't resist trying the Matcha Cranberry huat kueh (S$2). With its vibrant green color, rich matcha flavor, and a hint of tartness from the cranberries, this cake is a must-try for any matcha lover. The matcha here is incredibly pure, fragrant, and slightly bitter, making it my favorite among the offerings.

Finally, I sampled the Rose Lychee huat kueh (S$2), which had a subtle pink hue and chunks of fresh lychee inside. Rodney shared that they use real rose petals and rose water in this cake, delivering a gentle flavor that isn’t overpowering like many other floral-infused desserts. The lychee pieces were juicy and fresh, creating a perfect combination.
Useful Information for Vietnamese Travelers
