Exploring the Most Beautiful Beaches in Key Largo – A Paradise for Beach Lovers

Key Largo is renowned for its crystal-clear waters and stunning coral reefs. It's the perfect spot for beach enthusiasts looking to unwind after a hectic day. If you're planning a trip to Florida, make sure to spend a few nights in Key Largo before heading to Key West!

In Key Largo, you'll find plenty of exciting activities without breaking the bank, as hotels and restaurants here are remarkably affordable. I recommend staying for 2-4 nights to fully enjoy the area.

Stunning Beaches in Key Largo

1. Far Beach

This beach is nestled between the Gulf of Mexico and the Atlantic Ocean. If you're driving from Miami to Key West, Far Beach is the first one you'll encounter upon arrival. With its soft white sand, tall palm trees, and mangrove forests, it’s a picturesque setting.

During my visit, I spotted a group organizing a snorkeling tour. While I didn’t join the tour, I was able to rent snorkeling gear for my family to explore the vibrant underwater world. The beach also features comfortable wooden chairs and picnic areas, with accessible pathways and amenities like showers and picnic tables.

2. Cannon Beach

Cannon Beach is one of the most famous beaches in Key Largo. Its name comes from 17th-century cannons scattered across the sand, rumored to have belonged to a shipwreck. This beach is particularly suitable for children, as the waters here are quite calm.

Located within John Pennekamp Coral Reef State Park, Cannon Beach offers numerous water sports activities. When I went snorkeling here, I had the chance to see the USS Spiegel Grove and the Christ of Abyss statue. Although the water was a bit murky that day, I opted for a glass-bottom boat tour to view the underwater life, and I have no regrets!

3. Harry Harris Beach and Park

Harry Harris Park is one of the best family-friendly beaches in Key Largo. This park not only features a beach but also amenities like public grills, shaded picnic tables, and restrooms. Although it's located in Tavernier, Florida, it's just a 10-minute drive from Key Largo.

The park includes two playgrounds with slides and swings, making it ideal for little ones. Harry Harris Beach is a fantastic spot for kids to play and watch the sunset.

4. Anne’s Beach

Anne’s Beach is among the prettiest beaches in Key Largo, though technically it’s in Islamorada, just a 35-minute drive from Key Largo. The beach is named in honor of Anne Eaton, who dedicated her life to preserving the natural beauty of the area. It’s perfect for activities like kitesurfing and paddleboarding.

While it may not be the best place for swimming, the shallow waters are great for kids.

5. Founder’s Park Beach

Not far from Key Largo is the beach located in Founder’s Park in Islamorada. My family absolutely loved this park due to its wide range of outdoor activities and numerous play areas for children. During our last visit, we found the park nearly empty, which was surprising given its beauty!

6. Sombrero Beach

We were amazed by the stunning white sand beach at Marathon. Initially, we were just looking for a playground for the kids, but we ended up discovering one of the most beautiful beaches in the Florida Keys. Sombrero Beach is only a 5-minute drive from the Overseas Highway.

From April to October, Loggerhead turtles often come here to nest at night. Don’t forget to visit the turtle hospital, one of the most interesting activities in Marathon.

7. Smather’s Beach in Key West

If you're searching for the best beach in Key West, Smather's Beach is a must-visit. With its long stretch of soft white sand and stunning sunrises, it’s a highlight of any trip. Most visitors tend to skip the beach in favor of other attractions in Key West, so you'll easily find a spot to relax.

Conclusion

Key Largo truly is an ideal destination for beach lovers. Let me know which beach you liked the most in Key Largo, and if there are any other places you’d like to explore, feel free to leave a comment!
