Embarking on an Adventure in Nova Scotia
If you’re looking to explore the wonders of Nova Scotia but don’t know where to start, I have the perfect itinerary for a week-long journey. Upon arriving in Halifax, you’ll find this city surrounded by stunning natural beauty and charming fishing villages. I had the pleasure of experiencing this trip with my friend Lindsay, and I can’t forget the incredible seafood we enjoyed along the way.
Your adventure begins in Halifax, taking you through the Bay of Fundy, the Annapolis Valley, Yarmouth, and the Acadian coastline, before circling back to Halifax. I’ve carefully selected intriguing stops, including historical sites, lighthouses, and of course, some delicious dining options along the route.
Day One: The Annapolis Valley
On your first day, head towards the Annapolis Valley, home to the communities of Grand Pre and Wolfville, which are less than 100 km apart. If you arrive late, don’t worry; check in at the Evangeline Inn & Motel – a modern and stylish accommodation featuring an indoor pool and a hot tub outside.
The next morning, kickstart your day at Just Us! Coffee & Tea House, where you can savor some of the best organic coffee in Canada. If you’re a wine lover, make sure to visit the local vineyards. Domaine de Grand Pre Winery is one of the oldest wineries in the region, offering a variety of tours and tastings.
Culinary Delights in the Annapolis Valley
As you pass through, don’t miss the chance to dine at Church Brewing Company, located in a century-old church. Order a sampler of their craft beers along with fish tacos or chowder. In Annapolis Royal, I stumbled upon a cozy wine bar tucked away inside a bookstore. Mad Hatter Wine Bar serves Nova Scotia wines alongside charcuterie in a warm, inviting atmosphere.
As evening falls, visit the fishing community of Digby, just a 30-minute drive from Annapolis Royal. Here, you’ll find the freshest scallops, thanks to the cold, deep waters that provide an ideal environment for them to thrive.

Discovering History in the Annapolis Valley
Nova Scotia is rich in fascinating historical sites, including Grand Pre – a UNESCO World Heritage site. This area was once home to the Acadian people in the late 17th century. Stop by the visitor center and explore nearby attractions like the memorial at Horton Landing and the scenic viewpoint at View Park.
This journey not only offers insights into Acadian history but also lets you soak in the breathtaking landscapes. One of my memorable stops was Fort Anne, where you can delve deeper into the complex history of the Mi’kmaq, French, British, and African Nova Scotians.
Resting in Digby
After a long day of exploration, you’ll need a comfortable place to rest. Digby Pines Golf Resort and Spa is a fantastic choice, featuring an outdoor hot tub, tennis courts, and an 18-hole golf course. Enjoy a night here to recharge for the adventures ahead.
Day Two: Along the Bay of Fundy Coast
On your second day, you’ll travel along the Bay of Fundy from Digby to Yarmouth and the Acadian coastline. Don’t forget to enjoy a buffet breakfast at Digby Pines or swing by Sea Biscuit Cafe & Eatery, known for its homemade dishes and local art gallery.
In Saulnierville, stop by Le Cuisine Robicheau for some amazing seafood. Be sure to try Rappie Pie, a delicious Acadian dish made with potatoes and chicken that you won’t want to miss.
Interesting Stops in Yarmouth
Upon reaching Yarmouth, you’ll discover many intriguing stops. If you arrive early, enjoy a cup of coffee at Sip Cafe before exploring the shops and beautiful coastline. Don’t miss the chance to savor seafood at Captain Kat’s in Barrington, one of the most famous lobster restaurants in Nova Scotia.
Untold Stories from the Journey
I have so much more to share about this trip, with each day bringing new and exciting discoveries. Days three and four will lead you through magnificent lighthouses and stunning landscapes of Nova Scotia. Prepare for unforgettable experiences on this journey!
