Rajarani Thosai in Singapore is not your average thosai joint. With 25 years of experience and recognition from Michelin, it’s a must-visit for food lovers.
Introduction to Rajarani Thosai
Recently, I explored some new eateries featured in the Michelin Guide, and one that caught my attention is Rajarani Thosai located in the Tampines Food Centre and Market. This restaurant is not only popular among thosai enthusiasts but has also been visited by notable figures like former President Halimah Yacob and Minister of Social Development Masagos Zulkifli!
The Menu at Rajarani Thosai
During my visit with my colleague Aaron, we decided to try the Multi-Grain Thosai priced at SGD 3.50. To savor the authentic flavors, we tasted it first without any dips. Visually, the thosai appeared thin and crispy, but upon biting in, the sweetness of the grains provided a delightful surprise, distinctly different from the usual savory thosai experience.
When we tried it with sauce, we started with the coconut dip. This sauce had a slightly creamy and savory flavor, and when paired with the grains, it created a perfect blend! Next was the masala sauce, packed with the robust taste of curry leaves. For those who are sensitive to spice, the dhal sauce is a milder option that’s easier on the palate.
Coconut Appam - A Must-Try Delight
Next up was the Coconut Appam priced at SGD 2. With its enticing appearance, fluffy edges, and soft center, I could hardly wait to dig in. The gentle flavor of coconut milk is truly worth it! If you prefer a richer taste, you can add a bit of brown sugar to enhance the flavor.
Masala Egg Onion Thosai
Finally, we tried the Masala Egg Onion Thosai, which costs SGD 5. This dish is appealing with ingredients like potatoes, eggs, and onions. Compared to the multi-grain thosai, this one has a chewier texture, and the onions add a nice sweetness and crunch that's definitely worth a try.
