If you’re tired of the sweltering heat and pollution of Ho Chi Minh City, take a ride down to Can Gio. This area is a stunning expanse of mangrove forests that will captivate you, making it the perfect getaway. Can Gio is often referred to as the "Lungs of Ho Chi Minh City," with its mangrove forests being the main attraction.

The Journey to Sac Forest

To reach Can Gio, you’ll need to cross the Binh Khanh ferry. Once you’ve made it across, the straight and smooth Sac Forest road stretches for about 37 kilometers, inviting you to cruise through lush greenery on your motorbike.

Along the way, you’ll encounter numerous stalls selling sugarcane juice and coconut water, giving you a nostalgic feeling reminiscent of rural adventures. The cool breeze here is refreshing, and you can’t help but take deep breaths of the fresh air.

Interesting Stops Along the Way

If you have some time, be sure to visit the Chi Khu Rung Sac historical site. This was once a revolutionary stronghold during the war, which is why Can Gio was previously known as "Rung Sat" or "Killing Forest."

Another must-visit spot is Monkey Island. The monkeys here are quite mischievous, so keep a close eye on your belongings! Additionally, viewing the mangrove forest from the observation towers is equally captivating.

Witnessing the Beauty and Changes of Can Gio

Unfortunately, the beaches of Can Gio are not what they used to be. Currently, Vingroup is developing a large project along the southern coastline, which has restricted access to the beach.

This intense development could completely alter Can Gio's landscape and put significant pressure on the local environment.

Interestingly, for me, the Sac Forest road evokes memories of the paths through the Everglades swamps in Florida, USA. The tranquil and ethereal atmosphere makes you feel like you’re lost in some untouched wilderness abroad.

Moreover, if you continue along the Sac Forest road, you’ll arrive at the ferry to Vung Tau, a popular destination for those looking to indulge in fresh seafood by the sea.
