Introduction to The Toast
If you’re a fan of delightful breakfasts, then The Toast in Johor Bahru (JB) is a must-visit spot. With a commendable 4.2-star rating based on approximately 1,342 reviews on Google, The Toast has firmly established itself in the hearts of diners. Founded in 2007, the first outlet in Taman Mount Austin has evolved into a renowned F&B brand with multiple branches across JB, specializing in breakfast dishes.
Atmosphere and Service
Upon entering the café, you’ll immediately feel the vibrant atmosphere. As soon as I sat down, I noticed a long line of eager diners waiting outside, showcasing the strong appeal of The Toast. The staff is quick and friendly, adding to the overall positive experience.
Diverse Menu
The Toast boasts an incredibly varied menu, featuring an array of breads, local dishes, snacks, Chinese stir-fries, and vegetarian options. I decided to try the Mee Siam with Fried Chicken (RM11.50), as it’s touted to be one of the most popular dishes. The meal arrived with 4-5 pieces of crispy fried chicken, a fried egg, a slice of lime, and a dollop of spicy sambal. Instantly, I was captivated by the unique flavors resulting from the perfect blend of stir-fried noodles and shredded carrots.
Food Impressions
The Mee Siam truly did not disappoint, with each bite delivering a balance of sourness (from the lime) and savory sweetness. The fried chicken was a standout, tender and delicious, melting in my mouth. Additionally, the Nasi Lemak with Fried Chicken (RM11.50) was another fantastic choice. This dish included dried fish and peanuts, enriching the overall flavor profile. The rice, cooked in coconut milk with sambal, created a wonderfully creamy and spicy harmony.
Breads and Coffee
The bread at The Toast is a must-try specialty. I sampled the Margerin Sugar (RM3), Egg Mayo (RM5.20), and Garlic Bread (RM3.30). All were perfectly toasted, with a crunchy exterior and soft, fluffy interior. The Margerin Sugar was subtly sweet, with a distinct buttery flavor. The garlic bread was equally enticing, with the aromatic garlic beautifully complementing the butter. Not to be missed is the Kopi coffee (RM5), which has a rich aroma, providing warmth and energy with every sip.
