LATAM Airlines has introduced its new business class interior aboard the Airbus A321XLR, marking a first for South America. Discover the exciting amenities and flying experiences that await passengers.

LATAM Offers a Unique Business Class Experience

LATAM Airlines has recently announced the interior design for its upcoming Airbus A321XLR fleet, becoming the first airline in South America to equip its narrow-body aircraft with fully flat business class suites and private aisles. This innovation promises to enhance the flying experience with new levels of comfort and convenience for passengers.

Detailed Information About the Business Class Suites

LATAM has ordered at least 13 Airbus A321XLRs, with deliveries expected in 2027. The A321XLR is Airbus's latest narrow-body aircraft, extending the long-haul capabilities of the A321 line. The airline plans to utilize these planes to expand its long-haul flight market, although specific operational hubs have yet to be disclosed.

It is anticipated that the Airbus A321XLR will primarily serve routes to North America or possibly connect secondary cities in Brazil to Europe. Currently, LATAM has mentioned that these aircraft will be used to 'enhance connectivity between South America and further destinations.'

A New Journey with the Latest Product

Once the A321XLRs are delivered, LATAM aims to provide a completely new long-haul passenger experience. The airline plans to configure these aircraft with over 170 seats in a two-cabin layout, featuring both business and economy classes. The business class will utilize the Thompson Aero VantageSOLO product, while economy will be equipped with Recaro R3 seats.

In business class, the design features a V-shaped (herringbone) layout in a 1-1 configuration, allowing passengers easy access to the aisle, with each seat having its own private door. The entire aircraft will be equipped with in-seat entertainment, enhanced Wi-Fi, and Bluetooth audio capabilities.

A Breakthrough in Interior Design

Renderings reveal that business class will consist of 12 seats spread across six rows. Paulo Miranda, LATAM's Customer Experience Director, stated, "The Airbus A321XLR allows us to enhance our value proposition and improve the travel experience for our passengers. We are introducing a premium business class cabin on a single-aisle aircraft, with standards of comfort, connectivity, and privacy akin to long-haul travel, along with designs inspired by South America."

The Reality of Long-Haul Flights

The A321XLR impresses with its long-haul capabilities; however, the economic challenges of using smaller aircraft for long flights are well understood. Consequently, airlines are striving to maximize capacity, leading to many airlines offering similar business class products on their planes.

LATAM will feature V-shaped seats on the A321XLR, similar to other current operators using this aircraft primarily for long-haul flights, except for Aer Lingus. The Thompson Aero VantageSOLO product is already present in JetBlue's business class on some A321neo/LR aircraft and also used in Iberia's business class on A321XLR.

Final Thoughts

In 2027, LATAM is set to begin receiving its Airbus A321XLRs, which the airline plans to use to expand into new markets. LATAM has revealed what we can expect from this aircraft, including business class seats with private aisles and doors. The cabin looks very modern, and it’s exciting to see this development in South America, where no other airline currently offers a similar experience.

However, it’s hard not to feel a bit cautious with so many airlines introducing similar products. LATAM deserves credit for enhancing the passenger experience in South America, having introduced two new business class products on wide-body aircraft in recent years. What do you think about LATAM’s new business class on the A321XLR?
