Lufthansa is facing a significant strike as flight attendants plan to walk out on April 10th, impacting millions of travelers.
Warning from Lufthansa
Lufthansa is attempting to celebrate its 100th anniversary in a special way, but it seems this occasion has sparked a wave of strikes. Recently, the airline's pilots staged a two-day strike, and now it's the flight attendants' turn to plan a one-day walkout.
Details on the Flight Attendant Strike
The UFO union, representing Lufthansa's flight attendants, has called for its members to participate in the strike. This action is expected to result in the cancellation of most flights departing from Germany on April 10, 2026, from 12:01 AM to 10 PM. This timing is particularly disruptive as it falls right after the Easter holiday, a peak travel period.
Airlines Affected
The strike will not only affect Lufthansa but also Lufthansa CityLine, although other airlines under the Lufthansa Group, such as Austrian and SWISS, will not be impacted. Approximately 100,000 passengers are projected to be affected by this strike.
Lufthansa's Response
Lufthansa is seeking to minimize the impact of the strike by allowing some flights to be operated by other airlines within the group. In a statement, Lufthansa criticized the union, emphasizing that “a viable solution can only be achieved through dialogue” and that “strikes should always be a last resort.”

Reasons Behind the Strike
The flight attendants are striking because they have been unable to reach an agreement on a new collective contract. After about five months of stalled negotiations, the attendants voted, with 94% agreeing to proceed with the strike. The union accuses Lufthansa of failing to present any significant proposals and claims that the airline has made no progress.
Changes at Lufthansa CityLine
Lufthansa is not only facing internal challenges but also with Lufthansa CityLine, which is in the process of being dissolved and restructured into Lufthansa City Airlines to reduce labor costs. According to the union, the strike at Lufthansa CityLine is due to the “employer's ongoing unwillingness to engage in negotiations regarding an agreed social plan.”
Hopes for a New Contract
The flight attendants' strike is expected to take place on Friday, April 10, 2026, with most flights likely to be canceled. This strike follows last month's pilot strike, and it seems both sides have yet to find common ground on a new contract. Hopefully, both pilots and flight attendants can reach a new agreement soon, as the ongoing strike situation is detrimental to the airline.
