Lufthansa has launched a new uniform for its staff, designed by Hugo Boss. Despite the changes, many have noted that the new uniforms don't differ significantly from the previous designs.
Introducing Lufthansa's Employee Uniforms
In August 2025, Lufthansa announced a refresh of its employee uniforms for the first time in nearly 25 years. Recently, the airline unveiled the new designs; however, many observers feel that they don't stray too far from the old uniforms, which can be viewed as either a positive or a negative.
The Uniform Refresh Process
Airlines frequently update their staff uniforms to modernize their brand image. Lufthansa's uniforms had remained unchanged since 2002, and they had begun to feel outdated. Yet, there's something nostalgic about the old designs, especially for me, as I have fond memories of flying with Lufthansa to visit family in Germany since childhood.
Safety Video and Uniform Differences
Lufthansa also released a very light-hearted safety video. I often play this video in the background while working, with no apparent reason. The current uniforms won't be around for long, as the airline rolls out a new look for all staff groups, designed by Hugo Boss.
New Design Criteria
Recently, Lufthansa has been testing the new uniforms for comfort, fit, and functionality, with a strong focus on material durability. You might have spotted some Lufthansa employees sporting the new uniforms in recent months due to these trial runs.

A Look Back at Lufthansa's Old Uniforms
Before diving into the new designs, let's take a moment to appreciate the old uniforms of Lufthansa, soon to be replaced. The airline recently held a fashion show featuring real employees, showcasing the sincerity and approachability of the brand.
Feedback on the New Uniforms
I found it wonderful that actual employees participated in this showcase. Although they were asked to put on their “model faces,” most of them looked like they were about to have dinner with Carsten Spohr. However, I felt a bit disappointed with the new design, as it doesn't seem to present any striking differences.
Comparing to Previous Designs
Perhaps the new uniforms still align better with the older decor than with the new. I was hoping for fewer gold details and perhaps a brighter shade of blue, but that didn’t happen. I didn't expect a complex modern design like some other airlines have, but this uniform doesn't quite convey the feeling of a future-forward outfit.
Final Thoughts
Lufthansa is in the process of rolling out its new uniforms, marking the first refresh for the airline since 2002. The uniforms are designed in collaboration with Hugo Boss, but the exact timeline for their implementation is still to be determined. What do you think of Lufthansa's new uniforms? Feel free to share your thoughts!
