Marriott has officially replaced Pepsi with Coca-Cola as its exclusive beverage supplier. This change promises to bring numerous benefits to the hotel and enhance customer satisfaction.

Coca-Cola Replaces Pepsi at Marriott

In a significant shift, Coca-Cola has officially become the exclusive beverage supplier for Marriott, the global hotel chain that manages over 9,800 properties and nearly 1.78 million rooms. This partnership marks the end of a long-standing relationship with Pepsi that has lasted since 1992.

Transition Begins This Summer

The transition will kick off this upcoming summer, coinciding with Marriott's announcement regarding changes affecting over 450 million room nights annually. This phase is expected to bring substantial financial benefits to Marriott, particularly as they stand to gain five cents per room night from the new agreement. This could translate to around $22.5 million, not including revenue from restaurants, bars, or other services.

Additional Benefits from the Agreement

The new deal promises a variety of advantages, including reduced syrup prices, volume rebates, equipment support, branded coolers, along with a marketing fund and potentially direct payments.

Customer Preference for Coca-Cola

An interesting fact is that over 70% of Marriott customers prefer Coca-Cola products over Pepsi. It's evident that most guests request Coca-Cola instead of Pepsi when ordering drinks at hotels. When served at venues that only offer Pepsi, servers often awkwardly ask, "Is Pepsi okay?"

Is Pepsi Losing Ground?

Despite Pepsi's attempts to remain positive with campaigns like the "Pepsi Challenge" over the past year, many customers still express disappointment when faced with the choice of Pepsi. This has led to a noticeable trend where customers shy away from establishments that exclusively serve Pepsi.

Coca-Cola's Competitive Edge

Several airlines and hotels, including Delta, American Airlines, United, Southwest, Frontier, Spirit, and Allegiant, have chosen Coca-Cola, highlighting the brand's dominance. Meanwhile, JetBlue continues its partnership with Pepsi from a 2019 agreement.

What Do Customers Prefer?

Personally, on the rare occasions that I drink soda, I usually opt for Dr. Brown’s with deli food, but when flying, a bottle of Coca-Cola paired with a burger is my top choice. If Pepsi were the only option, I’d likely just stick to water.

What Lies Ahead?

The transition from Pepsi to Coca-Cola at Marriott can be seen as a proactive step in catering to customer preferences. It’s well-known that Coca-Cola has become an integral part of the dining and entertainment experience for many.
