After nearly two months of working in Toa Payoh, one eatery caught my attention. Although I’m not one to frequently try new places, once I find a spot I like, I tend to return often. Shengtai Beef Noodle at Lorong 8 Food Centre was my choice, and I quickly became a regular.

This humble eatery is located on the second row of the food center and boasts a simple menu. When I arrived to try the signature dish, there was a long line of customers waiting, but thanks to the owner's quick preparation skills, it wasn't a problem at all.

What to Order at Shengtai Beef Noodle?

I opted for the beef noodle with beef tendons (S$5/S$7), choosing the S$5 version. Between the options of dry and soup noodles, I went with the soup. After an hour of traveling to get there, I was eager to dig in, and the dish did not disappoint. One thing I love about Shengtai Beef Noodle is their generous portions of beef, whether dining in or taking away.

The beef was tender and flavorful, delivering a delightful umami taste that I adore. I was thrilled to see plenty of meat in the bowl of broth, enough to satisfy two people. The noodles were smooth and blended well with the beef's deliciousness.

The Beef Tendon Noodle and Other Highlights

Alongside me, we also ordered the kway teow beef tendon (S$7/S$9), opting for the S$7 version with broth. Beef tendon isn't my usual choice because of its jelly-like texture, but I decided to give it a try. Surprisingly, the tendon was not as soft as I expected, but had just the right amount of chewiness, making it enjoyable to bite into.

While the tendon didn’t have a strong flavor like the beef in the beef noodles, it offered a unique creamy and gelatinous texture. The kway teow noodles were also good at soaking up the broth without becoming mushy. However, I felt the broth could use a bit more depth, but with a sprinkle of pepper that we added, the flavor improved significantly.
