Embarking on a Month-Long Journey Through the Stunning South of China

I kicked off my adventure exploring Southern and Southwestern China from the vibrant enclave of Macau. This unique destination, rich with Portuguese influences, stands in contrast to Hong Kong's British heritage. My first must-visit spot was the Ruins of St. Paul's, the iconic symbol of Macau. If you prefer a quieter experience, I recommend visiting early in the morning to enjoy the serene atmosphere and capture some beautiful photos before the crowds arrive.

Right next door is the Monte Fortress, also built by the Portuguese in the 17th century. If you have the time, make your way up in the early morning when the weather is still cool to take in a panoramic view of the old town from above. The fortress also houses the Macau Museum, where you can delve into the rich history of this fascinating place.

Hong Kong: A Cultural Melting Pot

After leaving Macau, I headed to Hong Kong, renowned for its captivating blend of Eastern and Western cultures. Here, you can explore Tsim Sha Tsui, a bustling area filled with shopping malls and a plethora of dining options. Don't miss the chance to savor some delicious dim sum at the famed local eateries—it’s simply irresistible!

Guangzhou: A City Full of Life

Next stop: Guangzhou, just a stone's throw from Hong Kong. This vibrant city is famous for its lively night markets and mouthwatering street food. One of my personal favorites was the savory siu mai dumplings. There are also plenty of attractions to check out, such as the Guangdong Museum of Art.

Guilin Valley: Mysterious and Picturesque

My next destination was Guilin, celebrated for its breathtaking limestone mountains that look like they belong in a painting. The highlight of my visit was taking a boat ride on the Li River, where I felt as if I had stepped into a traditional Chinese landscape painting. In the evening, wandering through the local night market was a delight, where I discovered many handcrafted items and local specialties.

Yangshuo: A Peaceful Retreat

Yangshuo is the perfect place to soak in the serene countryside vibe, located not far from Guilin. The scenery here, from lush green rice paddies to quaint little villages, creates a stunning tableau. The best experience is cycling around the village in the morning, with dew still glistening on the grass.

From Dali to Lijiang: Ancient and Poetic

From Yangshuo, I continued my journey to Dali and Lijiang. Both towns boast unique architecture and majestic natural landscapes, making them ideal for immersing yourself in local culture and history. Be sure not to miss Erhai Lake in Dali, where the sunsets are simply breathtaking.

The grand finale of my journey was Zhangjiajie—often referred to as a paradise on earth, with its towering rock pillars reaching for the sky. Here, you can challenge your courage by walking on the high glass bridge. Every step taken is an exhilarating experience!
