Kimpton Era Midtown New York offers a memorable experience with its central location and attentive service, but there are several drawbacks to consider.
What You Should Know About Kimpton Era Midtown
I had the pleasure of staying at Kimpton Era Midtown New York in April 2026. The hotel is located in a prime area, making it easy to access many of New York's famous attractions. However, it wasn't my first choice when visiting NYC.
Rooms and Amenities
I booked a King room and was upgraded to a King Empire State View room. The room was beautifully designed but quite cramped, measuring only about 26 square meters. The space between the bed and the wall was minimal, making it nearly impossible to store luggage if you have a lot of belongings.
On the plus side, the bed was incredibly comfortable, and the room had large windows offering stunning views of the city, including the Empire State Building and the World Trade Center. However, the bathroom was quite small and inconveniently laid out, with the shower and toilet sharing the same space, while the sink was located near the entrance.
In-Room Amenities
The room came with several amenities, including USB outlets, a mini Bluetooth speaker, and a TV with Chromecast and AirPlay. Surprisingly, there was no Nespresso coffee maker, and it was disappointing that there were no easily accessible light switches by the bed.
Strengths and Weaknesses
There are many things to praise about this hotel. Firstly, the location is extremely convenient, and the breakfast was delicious. The service was attentive, with staff members always smiling. The overall design of the hotel, especially the restaurant, was also quite impressive.

However, there were some downsides. The air conditioning only started working effectively around 10 AM, which made the room a bit stuffy at night. The hotel did not offer bicycles for guests to borrow; instead, they provided vouchers for a city bike program, which isn't quite the same.
For Diamond Inner Circle members, breakfast wasn't included; instead, we received a $26 credit per person, which seemed unreasonable since most dishes were priced around $20.
Value and Return Potential
While the hotel has many strengths, such as its central location and room comfort, the shortcomings were quite apparent. The benefits for Diamond Elite IHG One Rewards members were somewhat limited, and the absence of on-site bicycles detracted from the overall experience.
In reality, given the room size, I felt it resembled more of a CitizenM or Indigo hotel rather than the standards I expected from a Kimpton. If you're looking for a more spacious stay, there may be better options available.
Other Amenities
The hotel also offers various other amenities, including a lobby on the ground floor, a second-floor lobby, a bar, complimentary morning coffee, a mini-store, and a fitness center. All these features come together to create a comfortable space for guests to relax.
Overall, I enjoyed my experience at Kimpton Era Midtown, but perhaps next time, I will consider other options when returning to New York.
