Explore Oiishii Corner in Toa Payoh, a budget-friendly halal Japanese dining spot. Don’t miss their delicious ramen and beef don!

Experience Unique Hawker Cuisine

Hawker centers are now more diverse and vibrant than ever. Gone are the days when you could only find chicken rice or Indian dishes like nasi goreng. Now, you can enjoy restaurant-quality meals right in these bustling areas. One standout spot is Oiishii Corner, located in the Kim Keat Palm Market & Food Centre.

Introducing Oiishii Corner

Since opening in 2017, Oiishii Corner has been the brainchild of a Japanese chef who previously worked part-time in Japan. His goal was to provide an affordable halal Japanese dining experience. This is why Oiishii Corner has become a shining star in the Toa Payoh food scene, attracting not only local diners but also visitors from afar.

Mouthwatering Menu Highlights at Oiishii Corner

Here, you can choose from a variety of enticing Japanese dishes such as Teriyaki Chicken Ramen (S$7.50), Chicken Katsu Curry Don (S$6), and Salmon Teri Don (S$6.50). Particularly noteworthy is their fresh sushi selection, including California Maki (S$4/S$8). Following the owner's recommendation, I tried the Oiishii Beef Don (S$6.50) and Inari Ramen (S$6). Unfortunately, the udon was sold out during my visit.

Flavors and Presentation

The ramen at Oiishii Corner is beautifully presented. The broth is rich and just spicy enough to tantalize the taste buds. The noodles are soft and chewy, making me want to savor more. What impressed me was not just the flavor but also the artistry in presentation. I noticed the absence of narutomaki slices, perhaps due to a shortage.

Other Ingredients in the Dish

The Inari dish features perfectly fried tofu pockets that blend harmoniously with the broth. Its flavor is slightly sweet and salty; while it might not be to everyone’s liking, each bite is certainly flavorful. Additionally, the dish includes a soft-boiled egg that adds a creamy texture, complemented by fresh corn kernels that bring a refreshing touch.

My Experience with Oiishii Beef Don

The Oiishii Beef Don did not disappoint either. Prepared with the perfect balance of spices, just as the owner warned regarding its spiciness, the beef was tender and infused with a rich teriyaki flavor, reminiscent of a Samurai burger from McDonald's. I found it interesting how the sauce permeated the rice, ensuring every bite was packed with flavor.
