Westlake Zi Char has been serving flavorful traditional dishes since 1974. Don't miss out on their 52% discount running until May 29!
Introducing Westlake
When it comes to Singaporean cuisine, Westlake Zi Char is a must-mention spot. Established in 1974, this beloved eatery is located on the second floor of 4 Queen's Road. Founded by Mr. Lim Tong Law, a well-known physical education teacher at the Chinese High School (now Hwa Chong Institution), he chose to pursue his passion for cooking at the age of 50, leaving behind his teaching career.
After 52 years, the restaurant is now run by the second generation, Mr. Robert Lim and his siblings, who have maintained its quality and turned it into a local favorite. Recently, the third generation, represented by Mr. Matthew Lim, has also decided to leave a banking career to continue the family legacy, preserving the traditional flavors that loyal customers adore.
New Dishes at Westlake
I recently tried three new dishes at the restaurant, starting with the Minced Pork Noodles with Fermented Bean Sauce (S$10/S$16/S$20), also known as zha jiang mian. The secret recipe has been passed down from Matthew's grandfather. The chewy noodles are generously coated with a delicious fermented bean sauce, delivering an unforgettable umami flavor.
The Spicy Frog Legs (S$25/S$37/S$48) is a crowd favorite now featured on Westlake's menu. This dish elevates the traditional frog porridge by serving the frog alongside rice rolls, adding an exciting twist as the rolls soak up the rich sauce.
If you’re looking for something lighter yet flavorful, try the Stir-Fried Green Chili Tofu (S$15/S$19/S$23). This dish is stir-fried with black bean sauce, minced meat, and crisp green chilies. To top it off, the restaurant drizzles a special sauce that follows Mr. Lim Tong Law's original recipe.

Classic Dishes at Westlake
No meal at Westlake is complete without the Pepper Pork Belly (S$20 for 5 pieces, S$37 for 10 pieces). This dish features premium pork belly imported from the Netherlands and Germany, known for its perfect meat-to-fat ratio. When paired with fresh vegetables and bao, this combo is simply irresistible.
The Sweet and Sour Soup (S$16/S$20/S$28) is loaded with tofu, mushrooms, wood ear fungus, and sea urchin, all simmered in a 24-hour chicken broth, creating a tantalizing sweet and sour flavor. I absolutely loved the Butter Prawns (S$38/S$58/S$76) – fresh, juicy prawns paired with crispy coconut flakes.
Desserts and Promotions
Additionally, you can enjoy other dishes like Westlake Grilled Chicken (S$25/S$43), Claypot Hokkien Noodles (S$10/S$16/S$22), and Green Bean Pancakes (S$22) for dessert. Special traditional desserts are also available for just S$2.50, including Melon with Sago, Gula Melaka with Sago, and Almond Jelly with Longan & Lychee.
In celebration of its 52nd anniversary, Westlake is offering a 52% discount from April 13 to May 29, 2026, on three new dishes – Minced Pork Noodles with Fermented Bean Sauce, Spicy Frog Legs, and Stir-Fried Green Chili Tofu, along with Butter Prawns.
