Royal Jordanian Unveils New Business Class Seats on Boeing 787

Royal Jordanian is embarking on a significant expansion, investing heavily in enhancing the passenger experience. This includes the introduction of new business class seats for long-haul flights. The airline has recently taken delivery of its first aircraft featuring the new interior, and I’m excited to share what you can expect from this product and the anticipated launch date.

It’s safe to say that this new Boeing 787 marks a promising chapter for Royal Jordanian, a proud member of the oneworld alliance.

Details About the New Business Class Seats

As of now, Royal Jordanian’s Boeing 787-8 fleet consists of seven aircraft. Additionally, they have six 787-9s on order, which will double the airline’s long-haul capacity. The first of these new planes has been delivered and is registered as JY-RBA.

The new 787-9s will feature a total of 312 seats, including 32 in business class and 280 in economy. This is just part of the airline's fleet modernization plan, as Royal Jordanian is also acquiring new aircraft from Airbus and Embraer.

Passenger Experience on the Boeing 787-8

The current passenger experience on Royal Jordanian's Boeing 787-8 is quite basic. These aircraft do not offer Wi-Fi, and the business class seats are Collins Aerospace Diamond seats arranged in a 2-2-2 configuration. Given the long-haul flights that the airline typically operates, this setup feels somewhat outdated.

However, all of this is set to change soon. Not only will Royal Jordanian introduce a new passenger experience on the recently acquired 787-9s, but they also plan to upgrade the 787-8s to a similar standard through a refurbishment program.

The New 787-9 Has Arrived in Amman

The first 787-9 has landed in Amman (AMM) and is expected to officially enter service on April 7, 2026 (though this timeline may be subject to change). Initially, this aircraft is set to operate flight RJ111 to London (LHR) from that date.

It seems that the seat product chosen by Royal Jordanian is a reverse herringbone design, likely from Collins Aerospace, which has previously provided premium seating for the airline. I suspect this may be the Collins Aerospace Elements, their latest seat model.

A Step Up in Business Class

I’ve noticed that this seat design will be similar to the business class seats offered by Starlux on their A350 aircraft. This conclusion is based on the design and shape of the seat shell. If this is indeed the case, it bodes well for the quality of the business class product we can expect from Royal Jordanian.

The Future of Royal Jordanian

In summary, Royal Jordanian is planning a major modernization effort. The airline is welcoming numerous new aircraft, including the Boeing 787-9. The first Dreamliner has been delivered and will feature the new business class seats, which will be installed across their entire Dreamliner fleet.

Based on the information available, I believe that Royal Jordanian has selected the Collins Aerospace Elements seating, which represents the pinnacle of comfort and luxury they can offer to their passengers.
