American Express Expands Lounge Concept with Sidecar by Centurion

Recently, American Express unveiled an exciting new concept called Sidecar by Centurion Lounge at Las Vegas Airport. This innovative lounge offers a distinctly different experience from traditional Centurion lounges — it is exclusively for passengers with flights departing within 90 minutes. The lounge is much smaller and resembles a cozy restaurant, featuring a menu that can be ordered via QR code.

Upcoming Lounge at Charlotte Airport

American Express plans to open a Sidecar by Centurion Lounge at Charlotte Douglas International Airport (CLT) in 2027. On March 9, 2026, the Charlotte City Council approved the plans for this new concept. The lounge will span 4,641 square feet and will be part of the second phase of the airport's expansion.

Lease Terms at the Airport

American Express has agreed to a five-year lease, with an option to extend for an additional five years. The rent will be set at $200 per square foot in the first year, totaling nearly one million dollars annually, with a 2.5% increase each year thereafter.

Current Lounge Information

Currently, American Express operates a Centurion Lounge that is approximately 13,000 square feet in size, located between Concourse D and Concourse E. The new lounge, at over 4,600 square feet, is expected to be significantly larger than the one in Las Vegas, which can accommodate only 33 guests at a time.

Improvements at Charlotte Airport Lounges

It's wonderful to witness positive changes regarding airport lounges at Charlotte. In the past, it was considered one of the worst airports in the U.S. in terms of lounge quality. However, improvements are underway. Recently, American Express opened Provisions by Admirals Club, offering food and beverages for club members to take away.

New Lounge Concepts at the Airport

Additionally, plans are in motion for a Capital One Lounge in Charlotte, which will feature a new 14,000 square foot space as part of the Concourse A expansion. This is certainly a promising sign for innovation at the airport.

American Flagship Lounge Under Consideration

Another interesting development is the proposal for an American Flagship Lounge at Charlotte, which has been delayed relative to demand. However, there is no specific timeline yet for the opening of the Capital One and American Flagship lounges, so a bit of patience will be required.

Summary of the New Lounge

American Express is set to open a Sidecar by Centurion Lounge in Concourse A at Charlotte Airport. The construction is expected to begin soon, with the lounge scheduled to open in 2027. This development is exciting, especially in the context of overall improvements in lounge quality at the airport.

Thoughts on the New Plan

For travel enthusiasts who frequently use American Express services, this news is certainly something to look forward to. The new lounge is sure to provide a much-improved experience for travelers at Charlotte Airport.
