Sapa: Where to Stay for the Perfect Experience?

Sapa is a place I've been enchanted by for a long time, and I finally had the chance to visit. Choosing a hotel is just the beginning; you also need to decide which village to stay in.

Sapa Town - Convenient and Comfortable

First off, Sapa Town is the most common stop for travelers. Here, you can easily find a variety of accommodations ranging from luxurious hotels to budget-friendly options, along with plenty of restaurants and cafes. Plus, the cable car to Fansipan is right there!

If you're only staying for 1-2 nights, Sapa Town is the most convenient choice. I think it's perfect for those who prefer comfort and convenience without planning any long treks.

Ta Van - A Village Among the Terraced Rice Fields

If you love breathtaking landscapes, Ta Van should be your top choice. Located about 10-12 km from Sapa Town, you’ll need to walk or drive to get there. This area is famous for its lush green terraced rice fields and charming homestays.

I find Ta Van ideal for trekking enthusiasts who want to immerse themselves in nature. Here, every morning you wake up to views that look like they’re straight out of a painting.

Lao Chai - Peaceful with Valley Views

Lao Chai sits between Y Linh Ho and Ta Van, known for its stunning views of the Muong Hoa Valley. I recommend this spot for anyone who loves photography and seeks tranquility.

Lao Chai offers many trekking routes, so you won’t have to worry about running out of places to explore!

Giang Ta Chai - Close to Nature

Giang Ta Chai is a small and quiet spot famous for its streams and waterfalls. I often pass through here on my trekking journey towards the end of Ta Van village.

If you appreciate serene spaces and a close connection with nature, this is a must-visit while in Sapa.

Ban Ho and Nam Cang - More Remote Villages

If you have the time and want to delve deeper, consider a trip to these two villages. Nestled in vast valleys, they are home to the Tay and Red Dao ethnic groups.

Ban Ho and Nam Cang are worth stopping by if you want to experience local culture and enjoy complete tranquility.

Hotel or Homestay: What’s the Best Choice?

This is a question many travelers ponder. Staying in a hotel in Sapa Town is very convenient for those seeking comfort and easy access to amenities. However, if you want to experience life among the terraced rice fields, you should opt for a homestay in villages like Ta Van or Lao Chai.

Should You Stay Overnight in Sapa?

Just one night in Sapa Town is definitely not enough to fully experience this beautiful area. I recommend spending at least 2-3 nights, dividing your time between the town and the villages.

An ideal itinerary would be: Day 1 in Sapa Town, Day 2 trekking to Lao Chai and staying there, and Day 3 trekking onward to Giang Ta Chai before heading back to Hanoi.

If you enjoy exploring culture along with stunning natural landscapes, why not combine a trip to Sapa with Halong Bay on your journey to Northern Vietnam?

Tips for Choosing Your Accommodation in Sapa

When selecting where to stay, consider the goals of your trip. If comfort and convenience are priorities, stay in Sapa Town. But if you love terraced rice fields and prefer peace and quiet, Ta Van and Lao Chai are perfect options.

Don’t forget to bring a small backpack if you plan on trekking, and be sure to book your accommodations early if you’re visiting during the rice harvest season in September!
