A shocking tale about guest safety at the Ritz-Carlton Doha, where a British couple faced a sexual harassment incident and the unfortunate aftermath from the hotel.
A Tragic Incident
Recently, a disturbing story about guest safety at the Ritz-Carlton Doha has captured significant public attention. A British couple, Craig and Sarah, became victims of a serious incident involving sexual harassment during their stay at the hotel in the summer of 2024.
Craig, a first-class member of the Marriott Bonvoy program, was in Qatar for work and brought his wife along for a getaway. While Craig was away, Sarah was harassed by two male guests at the hotel pool. Upon returning to their room, she informed Craig about the incident. Although the hotel promised to take the situation seriously, no effective action was taken in reality.
The Hotel's Response
In an effort to warn other female guests, Craig left a negative review on TripAdvisor. However, instead of addressing their complaint, the Ritz-Carlton reported Craig to local authorities for defamation, leading to his detention and deportation from Qatar. This raised serious questions about how the hotel handled the situation.
After the harassment, Sarah was informed by the management that the offending guests had been asked to leave the hotel. However, just two days later, the same two men reappeared at the hotel, making Sarah feel unsafe and severely traumatized.
How to File a Complaint
Craig submitted a formal complaint to Marriott and continuously requested that the hotel not contact Sarah directly, as she was in a state of panic. Unfortunately, the hotel ignored this request and reached out to Sarah directly, exacerbating the situation. Particularly troubling was the hotel's refusal to adequately address the incident after Craig reported it.

Serious Consequences
In February 2025, Craig unexpectedly received notification that he had been sentenced to one week in jail, fined 20,000 QAR (about 120 million VND), and ordered to be deported. Throughout this ordeal, Craig continued to work in Qatar with the government's permission.
By October 2025, as Craig was preparing to return home, he was arrested at Doha Airport. After spending four nights in detention under poor conditions, he was deported without any prior notice.
Important Information for Vietnamese Travelers
Before traveling to Qatar, Vietnamese tourists should be aware of visa regulations. Vietnamese citizens need a visa to enter unless they are exempt. Currently, Qatar has implemented various new rules regarding visa applications for different countries. To avoid unnecessary complications, always research local laws before traveling.
The cost of living in Qatar can be higher than in Vietnam. For instance, a meal at a restaurant typically ranges from 300,000 - 600,000 VND. Especially when staying at five-star hotels like the Ritz-Carlton, it’s important to budget accordingly for your experience.
Conclusion
The incident involving Craig and Sarah at the Ritz-Carlton Doha serves as a crucial lesson about protecting customer rights. It's unfortunate that the hotel’s response to this serious situation led to severe consequences for the couple. Instead of providing assistance, the hotel complicated matters further. Travelers should always remain vigilant and equip themselves with necessary knowledge before stepping into new destinations.
