Diverse opinions about travel can be confusing. Everyone has their unique way of experiencing life.
Why Do Others Have Different Views on Travel?
In today's digital age, sharing personal opinions about travel has become more common than ever. Whether positive or negative, everyone has the right to express their views. However, some people seem to take issue with how others explore the world. They often assume they are right and believe that only their way of traveling is valid.
Recently, I wrote a piece about my birthday trip to the Golden Triangle. One reader commented, criticizing me for isolating myself from the local culture and people during my travels. This struck me as odd because, in my perspective, traveling doesn’t necessarily have to revolve around immersing oneself in the local culture to have a valuable experience.
The Reality of My Trip
When I travel, I tend to choose large international hotels. This is part of my job—writing hotel reviews—so experiencing the services of major hotel chains is essential for me. However, that doesn’t mean I don’t seek out other interesting experiences beyond the hotel.
The reader mentioned that I never provided evidence of interacting with locals. In fact, during my recent trip to Bangkok, I had some fascinating experiences at museums and historical sites, not just staying in my hotel.
Expectations About Travel
It’s safe to say that everyone travels differently, depending on their personality and interests. Some people enjoy learning about local culture through activities like walking tours, dining, or participating in community events. Meanwhile, others prefer indulging in the comfort and luxury of high-end hotels.

Travel doesn’t always have to be a deeply exploratory experience. For me, reviewing and documenting my experiences is also part of the journey, and I value that. Everyone has their own reasons for how they choose to explore new places.
Solutions for Realities and Expectations
As I share my travels, I’ve realized that it’s important to address the criticisms I encounter. Sometimes, it’s inevitable that not everyone will be pleased. But what I want to emphasize is that there is no right or wrong way to travel. Each person has their unique method of experiencing the world.
If you’re a traveler looking for authentic experiences, feel free to do what you love. I encourage you to experiment and seek out activities that suit your needs, whether that means joining a tour, staying in a hotel, or exploring solo.
Useful Information for Vietnamese Travelers
For those in Vietnam wanting to explore new destinations, especially places like Bangkok or the Golden Triangle, there are a few things to keep in mind. To enter Thailand, you’ll need a visa if your stay exceeds 30 days. Flight tickets from Vietnam to Bangkok typically range from 2 million to 3 million VND, depending on when you book. Don’t forget to bring cash, as while credit cards are widely accepted, having cash on hand is more convenient for small purchases or dining at local eateries.
The best time to visit Bangkok is from November to February when the weather is more pleasant and many festivals take place. Be sure to explore night markets, enjoy street food, and don’t hesitate to chat with locals to learn more about their culture.
Ultimately, every trip will have its unique ways and experiences. What matters most is that you feel comfortable and happy with your choices.
