Lufthansa is on a mission to elevate the passenger experience on long-haul flights. A key part of this initiative is the introduction of the new Allegris cabins, which feature upgraded first and business class sections, alongside the FOX (Future Onboard Experience) service concept, aimed at enhancing service across all classes, whether or not the aircraft is equipped with Allegris interiors.

My Personal First-Class Journey

Last weekend, I had the opportunity to fly first class with Lufthansa from Frankfurt (FRA) to New York (JFK) on an A340-600. It wasn’t my first choice, but due to a last-minute change in my travel plans, I saw this as a reasonable way to get home while trying out their new product. So, is the FOX first-class experience truly revolutionary? Or are the changes merely incremental?

What to Expect from the New Product?

I had certain expectations for Lufthansa's latest offering. In fact, I previously found their first-class product to be quite good, though not the best in the aviation industry. I was eager to see if this new product brought any improvements, especially since I had previously reviewed their first-class cabin on the Airbus A350.

New Amenities and In-Flight Feel

When it comes to amenities in Lufthansa's first-class cabin, there are some updates, but nothing groundbreaking. They’ve added a small memory foam pillow, a nice touch alongside the standard pillow and blanket. The blanket itself remains unchanged, but its quality is quite good.

Regarding the new pajamas, Lufthansa has introduced a special set to celebrate their 100th anniversary. They are quite comfortable and of good quality, although I didn’t see any branding on them. Another charming detail is the new amenity kit, presented in a commemorative 100-year box, which is durable and reusable.

First-Class Dining Experience

When it comes to the dining service, I felt that while there are many improvements, it’s still a step-by-step progression rather than a revolution. The pre-departure drink service was excellent, featuring macadamia nuts and/or olives, which remains one of the most delightful offerings in the airline industry.

The menu and drink list were more varied and visually appealing than before, telling a story about the products being served. The dishes were also presented more beautifully, with careful decoration, truly enhancing the dining experience for passengers.

Must-Try Dishes on Board

During my main meal on the flight, the simple amuse bouche was replaced with an enticing trio of tasting portions. This indicates that Lufthansa has made significant efforts to upgrade the presentation of their food. The dishes were served separately, with liquids added to my seat, creating an enjoyable dining experience high above the clouds.

Useful Information for Vietnamese Passengers

When planning a first-class flight with Lufthansa, Vietnamese travelers should note the following: For U.S. publications, you will need a visa for entry if you are not a U.S. citizen. Lufthansa operates flights from Hanoi (HAN) and Ho Chi Minh City (SGN) with round-trip first-class fares starting at around 50 million VND for flights back to Vietnam. The current Euro exchange rate is about 24,000 VND, so be sure to budget for dining and shopping expenses abroad.

Additionally, the best time to fly is from June to September when the weather in New York is pleasant. Be sure to book your tickets early to secure a seat and take advantage of Lufthansa’s promotional offers.
