Discover the business class experience on United Airlines' one-hour flight from Burbank to San Francisco, along with useful information for Vietnamese travelers.
One-Hour Flight on United Airlines
Have you ever wondered what business class is like on a one-hour United Airlines flight? Recently, I took a trip from Burbank to San Francisco to find out. The flight, UA 488, departed from Burbank Airport (BUR) and landed at San Francisco Airport (SFO), a route I've flown for the past 20 years.
About Burbank Airport
Burbank Airport currently lacks a luxury lounge, and the amenities are quite limited, especially at Gate B where United operates. However, a new terminal is set to open in October 2026. Interestingly, United used to serve flights to Burbank until 2011 and returned in 2018, mainly focusing on their operations there.
Flight Duration and Purpose
Flight UA 488 took off at 07:17 AM and was scheduled to arrive at 08:53 AM, with a flight time of about 1 hour and 36 minutes. On this flight, I was seated in 1F (Business Class), a great spot for enjoying the views below.
Comparison with Other Airlines
While I didn’t focus on the specifics of service quality, I wanted to compare what United offers on this one-hour flight with other airlines. Typically, passengers on airlines like Alaska, American, or Delta receive a snack, while United provides cookies, chips, and some fruits like bananas.
In contrast, on flights in Europe or Asia, passengers might receive a full meal even if the flight duration is shorter. For instance, on a Lufthansa flight to Basel, which is only 175 miles, I was served a hearty lunch.

Onboard Amenities
Although the meal selection is limited, United's business class seating is quite comfortable, allowing for better relaxation compared to European airlines, where space is often restricted. Wi-Fi worked well throughout the flight, which is very useful for those needing to work or stay connected while in the air.
Flight Experience
Sitting at the front of the plane and enjoying coffee from a glass cup instead of plastic gives a different feel. I particularly enjoyed looking out the window and seeing Cupertino, home to Apple's headquarters, which has become an exciting habit of mine whenever I fly from BUR to SFO.
Conclusion
While a one-hour business class flight isn't an extraordinary experience, I still appreciated sitting at the front and enjoying the extra amenities compared to economy class. Though it may not be worth a significant premium, upgrading to business class can certainly enhance your flying experience.
Useful Information for Vietnamese Travelers
For Vietnamese travelers, flights from Vietnam to San Francisco usually depart from Hanoi (HAN) or Ho Chi Minh City (SGN). Passengers should note that a U.S. Visa is required, and round-trip airfare typically ranges from 15 million to 25 million VND, depending on the booking time. The best time to fly to San Francisco is from September to November when the weather is pleasant and there's less rain.
Additionally, if you're planning to fly domestically from Burbank to San Francisco, keep in mind that fares are generally quite reasonable, and there is no jet bridge at Burbank, meaning passengers board the plane via stairs, offering a unique experience.
