Experience a Wonderful Winter at Duck Mountain Park

When it comes to winter travel, Duck Mountain Park in Saskatchewan might not be the first name that comes to mind, but it’s sure to surprise you. Here, you can ski, snowboard, and even snowbike along the icy trails. I decided to embark on a solo adventure in a rustic cabin nestled in the woods, complemented by an afternoon filled with snowboarding and tubing fun.

The cabin is tucked away in a forest of pine and spruce, lacking modern amenities but possessing its own unique charm. All you need to bring is warm clothing, as the cabin is equipped with cooking supplies, a mattress, and a cast-iron stove to keep you warm. It’s the perfect retreat from the hustle and bustle of everyday life.

Skiing at Duck Mountain Park

The next morning, I set out to ski along the winding paths of the park. Duck Mountain is located on the eastern edge of Saskatchewan, in an area that transitions from boreal forest to aspen parkland. The terrain here is truly ideal for all kinds of winter activities.

As night fell, I returned to the cabin early to start a fire in the frigid -30 degree weather. The flames danced in the cast-iron stove, banishing the cold and allowing me to unwind for a peaceful evening.

The Cozy Cabins of the Kamsack Ski Club

These cozy cabins are maintained by the Kamsack Ski Club and serve as a perfect stopping point for anyone engaging in activities like skiing, snowbiking, or even bringing along dogs—as long as they don’t damage the trails.

A Peaceful Morning and New Adventures

The following morning, I woke up to a stunning sunrise. After tidying up the cabin, I quickly set out to continue exploring the park. Although I didn’t encounter anyone on the trails, I did run into the president of the ski club when I returned to the parking lot. We had a brief chat before he continued on his way.

Snowboarding and Tubing at Duck Mountain Ski Hill

To wrap up my trip, I switched to snowboard boots to test my skills at Duck Mountain Ski Hill. This is one of the few places in Saskatchewan where you can ski downhill. I started with tubing, and it was exhilarating to glide through the snowy curves.

Snowboarding here is also a fantastic experience. Although I felt a bit nervous using the T-bar to ascend, the attentive staff made me feel at ease. The slopes here are covered with natural snow, no artificial stuff needed.

If you’re looking for a unique winter destination, Duck Mountain will not disappoint. This stunning area is breathtaking in winter, but it’s definitely worth a visit in other seasons as well.
